Well, I usually don't kiss and tell, but.... I'm actually going to buy a saw this week!!! Got a pic of yours? I'd like to see what everybody is using....

I have a old frantom wet lapidary saw, I've not used it yet as it needs a motor, its got the saw, a few wet grinding wheels and a sanding disk on the side. Its old and well used and very heavy, now if a nice used motor would fall into my lap I'd be all set. :)

I have the 7" in. and LOVE it. Went out to take a picture, but my memory card is full, and it's new camera and I don't know how to delete. W/try to read the book and figure this out. I HATE reading manuals!!!

my stepfather got me a brandnew one last year that i have yet to use i take that back i did use i once i tried to cut a geode open with it and ended up having to replace the blade right after but since then i havent bothered but i have some stuff old tiles and such i want to practice on so i dont screw up when i do decide to use it for a project i am hopig it will be cutting my bathroom tile very soon which ha been sitting on my back porh for nearly 2 yrs hubby had a bunch left from a job his co. did so they told him to bring it home and use it since the manu. wouldnt take it back i have the trim and grout but since we only have 1 bathroom it has to be done in a weekend and i need new backer board and a new sink tub and cabinet and fixtures still so until i have it all we cant do anything i think i may have to forgo the clawfoot tub just to get it done in a timely fashion im tired of waiting LOL im impatient

I will throw out a site for all you "saw ladies" to visit. Brooks Tower is absolutely brilliant with cutting stone tiles and his designs are thought provoking and very edgy. His work won best in show at the 2007 SAMA convention (Society of American Mosaic Artists).

Hey I just got off the phone with the company that bought out the company that bought out the frantom company that made my saw/grinder(its a 10 inch saw btw). He was very nice and helpful. I might be able to use the motor on my regular grinder to power this huge monster...but sadly I think the saw blade needs replacing. They are sending me a catalog, anyone done business with Diamond Pacific before?

Thanks for reminding me i needed to do this, I've been tripping over this monster machine for awhile now since I bought it used. Its so heavy I need help lifting it to my work bench.

I have the PlasPlugs Home Depot model, 10 years old and often seen at yard sales. Depends what you want to do, for me it's fine, the work surface being adjustable is useful for trimming heels and a straight cut is a certainty.

The Gemini saws [Tauras and Titan] need the add on accessory packs for good straight cutting. Another blade is a good idea too as the Titan comes std with the mega blade, the Taurus3 does not. Add another $100+.

The T3 is a glass saw, if your primary target is ceramics then it makes perfect sense to go with the Titan and a cheap hardware store model as a blade saver.
My target is glass, with the occasional curved ceramic or thick glass cut. I'm happy with the T3 and a cheap hardware store tile cutter.

yvonne - that's the brand I have.....just checked and it also has an adjustable table. How do you trm the heels off with it? Geometry was never my strong suit, so can't quite get it. Mine uses a blade that averages $22, that's why I'm considering a larger saw....the blades are actually cheaper.

I was thinking the same thing, I'm gonna go get the tile saw as it will save wear and tear on my taurus. Today I meet with Klinger to play and maybe I'll go get my saw too!!!heh heh!

Here's a picture of my dirty saw. Had to get help w/camera yesterday and was too tired last night to post. Got this at Lowes for, I THINK, about $250. It's a dilly of a saw.

I have a small $89 one from home depot and it works fine for cutting all I need to cut cups,china,tile so it's good enough for me .Its a 7" Workforce.At that price I can replace when I need too.I've had it 4 yrs already!

Now that's a saw! There's nothing 'slow' about that!
Pat, I did angle cuts, the cup and sucer were broken. It was a long time ago I haven't used that saw in five years.

Slow, is your saw a chop saw??? I'm having a heck of a time putting mine together as it came with real crappy instructions and all these parts........

That's a chop saw behind it and a scroll saw to it's left. Take it back to the store for them to help you.

The catalog to purchase parts for my old saw came...yikes, the blade the man on the phone suggested is $141, I think I need to chat with someone in the know to see if a less expensive blade will work.

Like Annie, I've got the little 7" Workforce/Home Depot saw. I bought this one, because of a YouTube video we all saw several months ago and because the guys over at the JohnBridge.com website likes this saw for small DiY projects.

I finally dragged it out of the box yesterday and boy... what a lesson that was! I discovered some differences between these little saws and the larger ones. The blade spins towards you, which means the water on the wheel also sprays towards you. It took me awhile to figure out, because I ended up soaked to the bone. The little blade guard does a good job of deflecting the water, but I kept raising it up to cut plates. The more expensive saws spin away from you... and so does the water.

One thing I am not happy with is that the cuts I am getting are full of chips. At first I thought it was my technique, but after reading again at the JohnBridge site, I think it may be that I have a bum blade in there. I'm going to read up a bit more to find out for sure. One thing I know for sure is that I am not sure whether or not this tilesaw is going to be any easier than just nipping plates. I also don't think it's any faster, but that may be just a matter of practice.
