I really haven't done the indirect method, but want to soon. I think it would be perfect for a chessboard.

Ladyronnie talks about it some in this thread. I think I'd use contact paper.

WONDERFUL - very good cutting, great choice of colors. What base w/you use? Do you have the chess set? What size are your squares?

Thanks, Slow...I'm using MDF for the base. I had the fellow at HD cut it to 17" square. Each glass square is 1 3/4". So, when it's finished, I'll have a nice little border...a little over an inch, I think. I've glued everything down and am going to wait to do the border tomorrow. I'll post more pictures.

I decided against the indirect method and just found the center of the board, marked the lines across the board with a pencil and did my best to keep them all straight. If it's a little off, I don't care...afterall, it's homemade...not from a factory, so it has to have some imperfections, right? lol

Oh, I TOTALLY agree w/that way of thinking. After all, if you want a factory job - just go buy one, huh. LOVE that attitude. That's why I don't worry about all my rough and tumble, primitive-style jumble. I WANT my stuff to look different than anyone else's. I really like your colors, and thanks for the info cuz my HM wants me to make one for him. Now, ROSIE, I wish I'd bought that brown today at the Glass Garden. Guess I'll HAVE to go back. Oh, darn!

I started one a few months ago with porcelain tiles, but I cut some of the squares too small... It's just been sitting there since then.

That IS nice! I'm glad you didn't decide to follow MY thread to do the indirect method, as it was really how NOT to do it! It was my first attempt and I documented it, but not very proud of it. The end result was ok, but I sure learned a lot!

I think this is going to look great. I'll second the question, do you have the chess pieces? Gonna make little stand up stained glass chessmen? :)

Ladyronnie, I am buying wooden chess pieces for now. But, I'm thinking of making some...maybe for Christmas.

I really expected to be finished by now, but my husband has been home the past few days and it's a birthday gift for him! I need him to hurry up and go back to work!

Mostly finished except for grouting. What color would you guys suggest? The border is light tan and forest green. I really don't want to use grey or black. Help, please?

Since this is something my kids will be using as well, I put each little piece to the grinder. Whew! What a task!...especially since I could only work while my husband was gone (and he decided to stick around a lot this week)and had to have my oldest child watch her younger siblings. It was all so time consuming!

I don't do this often, but since you don't want to use black or grey, how about a nice green. There are some wonderful greens at a tile store.
