color ideas needed!

I almost completed the interior of my garage.

I had my garage floor done with a beautiful black and silver flake epoxy over a light grey base tone on floor. The finish has a very high gloss top coat that looks stunning! . . It almost looks wet!

The walls were just painted a medium charcoal for the top half of the walls. The bottom half I had a PVC Material (taupe color) attached to the wall (easy to just hose down). Wall cabinets are white, and door at the moment, is a bright bright white color with black accents. I think I do want to keep the black accents.

I am trying to figure out:

(1) Should I mute the white a bit on the door color so not to be so stark and get them closer to the white in the cabinets orrrr maybe paint the door an extremely light grey color?

(2) The trim right now matches the wall which I'm NOT sure I like. I was thinking of doing the trim a very deep charcoal color (almost black but not quite) . . same color I actually used on the beam that runs across the garage ceiling. And maybe make the stairs the same color as the trim?

Need some suggestions.

I attached a picture to give you a visual.

Great job. Your garage looks better than my house!

How about a scheme that leads you to the door? Dark charcoal for the steps and the trim around the door, and then black for the door?

I'd also be very tempted to paint one of the cabinet doors - probably the third from the left - the same brilliant red of the London telephone booth in your photograph.

I can't be helpful, but just wanted to say your garage is wonderful! I love the photograph in there and also love bronwynsmom's idea about adding red somewhere else. signed, very jealous

So freakin' jealous! It looks gorgeous!

Thud. Uhmmm, that is one beautiful garage.
I officially know now I live on a garbage dump.

I would also consider painting the door the taupe of the PVC material.

. . ok, so I'm down to doing the trim and stairs the same dark dark charcoal color. Just stuck on the door now. Should I keep the black outlines or ditch it?

I would love to see that door a BRIGHT red. Trim and steps a dark dark charcoal.

Ditch the outline, it confuses the eye. I very much like what Bronwynsmom suggested.

    Great idea, cam!
That's where the red should be.
    The door.
I hope you'll do it! Nice and shiny.
And no black outlines. I think you'll lose the elegance of the space if you keep them.

I'd look at SW Real Red SW 6868, Positive Red 6871and Gypsy Red 6865 - also Ralph Lauren Dressage Red and Anthem Red (he does make the best reds, I think) and see which one best matches the telephone booth.

That is one beautiful garage! I agree-red door.

Can't wait to show your post to DH who keeps his car cleaner than our house!

I love what you've done with your garage. I agree with the others - the black outlines are distracting.

We painted our steps white and partially covered them with charcoal grey indoor/outdoor carpet we found at Lowe's. The carpet protects the paint from scraping off and helps reduce tracking dirt into the house.

Sorry if this isn't the best pic. My regular camera's batteries are dead.

Ok. . ditching black outline on door. Trim around door and stairs will be deep charcoal (almost black). Now torn between high gloss black or high gloss red. Suggestions? and what do u think of painting one cabinet door same red as suggested by one follow up post?

Black door, and hey, why not paint all the cabinets red? :)

I'd say, red door, and cabinets left white.
Too much red will swallow up the charming image of the red telephone box.
And the door is the best reference to it.
I think restraint in the use of the red is key to perfecting the sophistication of your scheme.
If you really want a little more, do just one red cabinet door, next to last on the side wall. It's a witty gesture if you stop at one.

You can go some darker color but not much I think.
