Messed up???

Hope I didn't mess up! Got all excited and over anxious--1st mosaic project- had some old wood birdhouses that were weathered and most people would have probably have thrown them away, but.. so I mosaiced them with stones, glass, and marbles. Didn't seal them first and now have grouted them. Look OK but can or do I seal them with something that will make them stronger like some type of varnish especially the ones with stones? I think they look pretty good as I'm not very crafty and have "arthur" in my hands. Since I spent so much effort and time on them, I'd really like for them to last a couple of years anyway. (DH says they'll come apart in a year!) Thanks all and I REALLY LOVE all your stuff- you are SO creative! Jeanette from Mississippi

They'll be ok..as long as you don't put them outside!

I love birds... birdhouses... and have several inside the house.
Use these inside...and make another one for outside?
Or.... go ahead and put them outside.. enjoy them... and while you enjoy them... MAKE MORE for later! :)

If you are going to put them outside then deffinately seal them with a good sealer if they are just going to be in the house then they will be fine with out it but it still wouldnt hurt

What type of sealer do ya'll use for outside stuff? I am also working on a totem of some old clay pots I had. So far, the only thing I've bought are tiles, grout,glass marbles, and LOTS of tubes of silicone. LOL

Wood outdoors is never a good substrate. It sucks up moisture like a sponge. There is really nothing you can seal with after the fact to make them impervious. Even sealing wood BEFORE mosaicing is iffy if you plan to place it in the elements.

Keep the wood ones indoors and make others for outdoors.
