Photoshop Request?

There is the possibility that I may need to repaint my hallway based upon how my LR turns out once it's painted white.

I wanted to get an idea of what my hall might look like white. Currently the walls look almost white but IRL they aren't at all. It's more of a dark bone color which looks great w/ my black ceiling. I'm wondering how white will play w/ my ceiling since w/ the bone it sort of 'goes away' and I think whiute might call attention to the ceiling.

Can someone photoshop the walls white? Currently one of my contenders is BM White Heron.

Thank you so much! Now is that just a random white that you threw in from the computer program? Forgive me for such a stupid question but I have no clue how Photoshop works!

Well guys, what are your honest opinions please?

Honest opinion, I like what you have now better. What is the problem if the living room is different.

No problem w/ the LR being different - I just want to make sure that the house has the same over all feel. The deeper bone color of the hall def. has a more 'old world' feel and painting my LR walls a crisp white will probably lend a more modern feel to my LR. Both areas are adjoining.

I did just paint my LR white and it looks awful w/ the Ivory Porcelain walls in the Hallway. That I chalk up to radically different undertones and tints and is currently what I am searching out - a white w/ similar tints to that of the current hallway color.

I plan on trying a sample of the current hallway color cut to 25% strength in my LR but I also wanted to see what my hall would look like painted white w/ that same picture and w/ the black ceiling.

Honestly though, while I like my hallway color very much, I don't think that I would like it in any other room in my house so I'm having a hard time thinking that I could like it cut down to almost white. And my LR is my top priority so the hall color must mesh w/ my LR color.

If you have spare paint, can you paint a large board and set it up in the hall? The photo-shop version is completely saturated and not"3D" so it won't have the depth of the real thing (and there are no reflected colors/lighting effects).

If you like the way the living room turned out, why not reverse your plan and cut the hallway paint with the white (do you have any original paint left?) I'll bet your lighting is different enough between the two spaces that only you will know there's a difference.

I love the white walls with your dark wood; I'm sure I'll be in the minority.

I agree, the white walls and dark wood is very dramatic and enhancing.

Tisk, tisk Ttodd - what are you doing? :)

Thinking about this, I do think the white will look very nice.

Unfortunately I scraped the bottom of the can getting the last bits of paint out for my LR.

The LR color (Sw West Highland White) is taking on a lemony tone in certain corners as the sun moves across the room. The tints are Raw Umber and Gold - couldn't figure out why my rich warm white was getting that odd faint lemon shade until I looked at the can. It also gets a weird shade of green from the leaves outside so mixed w/ that ffaint yellow my walls look ill.

And it completely clashes w/ the hall which falls into the orange family according to various classifications.

So at lunch today armed w/ my white slipcovers and sepia tree prints I headed to Sherwin Williams and got a tutorial.

We went through many shades off white and I walked out w/ a sample of SW Pure White. Its only tint is Raw Umber and looks really good w/ the hall and office colors so maybe I won't have to repaint the hall. We were also thinking that brown is also comprised of red so that may help counteract the green cast from the leaves.

I know that I want a modern backdrop to the rustic and antique pieces that I have. I wasn't sure how white walls would look w/ the black ceiling since I don't want the ceiling to jump out at you.

I've had my hall painted white before and it does look really nice w/ the dark wood. It especially looks pretty w/ the leaded glass entry doors that are framed w/ the dark wood. The doors almost seem like diamonds when paired w/ the white.

Shee - you crack me up! I've been playing w/ thought of a white LR for awhile and now it may flow over into the hallway.

    One step at a time!

I do know that I've finally settled on an almost all-white kitchen w/ black countertops and a built in hutch painted SW Peppercorn. That would also tie into a white and black hallway since the kitchen is off the back of the hall.

They both look lovely. Go with whatever makes you happiest when you look at it. (Yes, that is stat response I guess!) I love the foyer either way, so d*r*a*m*a*t*i*c.

    Have fun!

Sorry I took so long! That color is not any specific one, just lightening your space. Personally I prefer the white in homes of this age because it is a good chance to clean things up and smooth them out. Isn't picking whites impossible! It's funny just how much color is in them, I'm sure you'll be happy whatever you do. :)

I am a real sucker for black and white though.

Not sure if this is anymore helpful. I just desaturated the walls in the original picture somewhat. It retained the shadows, and more of a 3D look like was mentioned above.

You know I'm thinking that I may just do it white anyway! The 2nd try at white for my LR has worked out quite well and plays nicely w/ the halls current color but there has always been a certain look that I thought was very reflective of the way I approach the world: Very traditional and entrenched in the past but always doing something so unexpected to set myself apart.

I have always adored very Victorian style homes w/ all of the original hardwares, trims etc... w/ clean decor. I've always loved that juxtaposition.

There's an interior designer, Vicente Wolfe, who did a NYC Brownstone like that and I was in awe. Does anyone remember when A&E had a show on every Saturday morning that toured homes and their style? That's where I initially saw it.

I will not run right out and repaint my hall though. As usual I will live w/ my newly white LR against the current hall color for awhile, put those photoshoped pictures are really making me see another side and possibility.

    Thank you!
