define "it." The plate or the grinder? The grinder is already mounted to the bench in the garage. Do you mean put the plate in a hand vise-grip tool?

I tried that once . I had medium grit sandpaper on the wheel - it was slow and just heated up really bad. Didn't do anything. I know I had the wrong grinding wheel on it but I wanted to try. Someone here mentioned using a grinder with a coarse wheel on it - like the kind that will grind concrete. Who was that ? I seem to remember it worked. I wish I could remember for sure.

I have an old one of my Dad's in the storage shed. I was wondering the same thing. The wheel is rough and not aligned flat but rather like a car tire. I think he used it to sharpen tools. If the sucker wasn't so darn heavy I'd dig it out and try

I don't know about bench grinders but I did get diamond grit wheels for DH's Dremel. It worked great on a couple of plates but some of them are so hard it doesn't do anything to them. I usually nip them small enough to grind down on my Glastar grinder.

Update: It didn't work.
Bring on the next item; I'm just on a failure roll today.

As CALAM said - it has to be a diamond thingy.

Geez, I rather think a bench grinder would break a plate and throw it at ya. It's hard enough to hold a mower blade to one and that's able to sit flat on the guide.

In a word, Dangerous.
