I love that you want to use her dishes and flower pots
that way. That is a wonderful idea.

I think most people here use the wheeled glass nippers,
and GEII silicone for windows and doors in the caulk section
of the store, for outside things.

Bless your heart. I remember - couldn't stay at the cleaning out of my DH's things very long at a time. Another outside adhesive that I use almost exclusively is Mapei Ultra Flex 2 - a polymer-modified thinset. It's concrete-based, therefore is safe for all climates. I use it for the grout too. Sometimes I mix it w/equal parts of sanded grout for inside AND outside mosaics. Sometimes I even use the thinset for inside mosaics. It has instant stickability and is VERY strong. Welcome JO. You'll find mosaics very addicting but very therapeutic.

What a great way to honor your mother and keep her close to your heart.

You never really "get over" it, but you do adapt.

Welcome Joanne,Sorry for your loss and hope this will help you not just in the art form but the friendship you will find here.I use mostly china and nip my plates with Tile Nippers ,yellow handles you can buy at Home Depot or a good tile store.I have the glass nippers also which are round but don't like them for china or tile.I also use only thinset for outside projets,it is cement based and will hold up in the weather.When I used other glues outside they fell apart after a year or so.There are lot's of books in the book stores also that show you how to do what you want and give lot's of ideas and then theres us here for ideas.I just posted some outdoor pieces under the thread auction pieces done.If you look thru my album you'll also see a memorial cross ,you might be interested in doing that with your mothers china.Good luck and god Bless you.Annie

Welcome Joanne, I'm so sorry about your mom. My dad passed away 7 years ago and I can tell you it does get easier in time. What a wonderful idea to use your mom's plates in something that will remind you of her every time you look at it!

Welcome, I also offer my condolences. Man I hate that sentence, it seems so impersonal, so I guess I will say you have my heartfelt sympathy. I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through.

Using your Moms plates to mosaic will be a good way to heal. I can't say for all but most of us use mosaics as some form of therapy.

You've already gotten some great advice for what to do so I will just repeat what they said and affirm the fact that we love the pics of wip and finshed projects. Will love to see your work!
