Lordy...I remember when you were starting this....waaaaayyyyy KOOL! It leaves me speechless...where did you get the inspiration...the concept? Unbelievably CREATIVE...Not to be duplicated!

I can't really say where I got the concept. Probably saw something in my internet browsing that sparked something inside. . . .

The title is a take off on a line from a Neil Young song that stuck in my head for months (and I realllly dislike Neil Young, which is uber-strange). It's about a woman who dumps her kid in a garbage can so she can get another fix.

Here I was chopping up these little figurines and thinking they had reached their final destination . . . .

I know it's creepy but it satisfied a need in me. I'm still collecting the figurines . . . who knows, maybe that mannequin is taunting me into covering him with little tiny heads and hands and feet . . . .

Ok... it used to creep me out but now I think it's hilarious. Totally LOL when I opened the pic! I think its the leg?/ arm? sticking out in that shot. I can't help but think of that grout as a great ball of silly putty that rolled through cartoon land picking up all those characters and their pets...

Wench, That is wonderful. I remember when you posted the first little bit of it done. I liked it then and it is even better now. I think you must have the patience of a saint to grout that . All those little places and keeping it off the faces. Are you going to share how you did that? Did you pipe the grout on the ball with something?

Yes, I piped the grout in with a plastic baggie. I had to mix it really wet (which I don't care for) so that it would mold into all the crevices (thus the touch up yet to be done).

I've had several people interested in it but I can't let it go until I'm satisfied with it. I also entered it in a juried show and have yet to hear back . . . .

Very different. Great workmanship and I LOVE the grout color. Couldn't tell until I clicked on the closeup what color it was.

Here I go with some more ramblings.

Wench, I wasn't sure what to make of this when you first posted the pic. Truth is, I have thought about it often. I am fascinated with the way people come up with projects that have something to say, like I think this piece does. So now I can say I really like this piece. It can be playful or creepy. I think it depends on your point of view. That is art that speaks. While, you may have had no inclination to "speak" to anyone, I think you did. I love it!! (I hope I'm not the only one who got all that out of a bowling ball. LOL.)

Thank you sunshine - it makes my day when my works speaks to someone else but me. Sometimes I think I'm crazy that it speaks to me at all. . . .

I really love decorative art (so pretty and uplifting) but sometimes I have things swirling around inside that come out in my work. The most obvious example was a window I did just after my dad died. It's very bleak and somber one woman burst into tears when she saw it (and she didn't know from whence the inspiration came). Here

Regarding this bowling ball, I had one woman back away and say I shouldn't have been so graphic about abortion . . . .truth be told, I "did" think about it while working but that's not what this piece is about (at least not consciously). To me it's about children who never get to be cool - for whatever reason.
