Found Something I Can't Mosaic

I'm not proud - I show my errors too. A friend sent me an image she wanted copied. This is the second attempt, and I give UP! Simply can't do it. Think I'll stick to things I CAN do.

Well. Slow, I think it is quite cute! I love the flower, sun, and little sayings (that I can't read), the border, well everything! And that little duck is as CUTE as can be.

Oh, I forgot to tell you what's under the glass globs. Says: "A friend is someone who thinks you're a good egg even though you're slightly cracked!" - and then at the bottom "Your friend, and my name.

    I think it's adorable!

Well, it's quackered but in the nicest way, I guess it's a daisied duck.

You may think you can't, but I like it anyway. Especially the saying you included. Great gift for a friend.

Slow I think your being hard on yourself, it is really cute. I honestly couldn't see that it was a duck but I thought it was adorable!!!

Ok Slow, I have news for you. You CAN do it. I will tell you how. My mosaics are similar to your personal style, nothing but eye candy, interesting and well coordinated. I personally don't like doing people, faces, perfect flowers, or what have you, but I was tempted by a flamingo from a post card that I had.

There is copying an image and there is copying. The easiest way to do it is to purchase Saral transfer paper. It is best to copy an image from a photo (my opinion), than to try to copy from something directly in front of you. You put the image on the substrate you want to mosaic, then the Saral paper over it, and you trace it (like we did as kids in school--LOLL)! You then mosaic the edges first, and work your way inwards, so you don't mess it up.

I made this flamingo (all china shards), from a pink pastel salad plate.

Know what.... I think he is VERY, VERY cute just the way it is!
Look at that perky face...just as if that little ducky is saying
"Yes you CAN do anything you want to do! And *I* as your friend will help you!"
The whole thing is overflowing with funky, happy, personality!
Love the beak! Love the bright pink flower. Love the "color outside the lines" look that makes him unique!
    Yup... it IS a cutey!!!

Well if y'all don't beat all. This, as well as the other one is doomed to line the workshop failure shelf, but you've inspired me to try one last time. MANGO - your flamingo is just beautiful, and WITH SHARDS, no less. Thank you for the suggestions. Gonna stop by HobLob today to try to find the transfer paper. This little guy is soooooooo small I could hardly work on it - such fiddly little pieces. I REALLY knew I should have used the transfer technique and the ring saw, but was to lazy to drag it out. I think that's the only way to bring this off. Thanks for making me try again, y'all. You're the best.

You can do it Slow, we know you can. This attempt is cute just as everyone said, but I know you can do better. Remember, there is nothing you can mosaic!!!! LOL

    Slow
No he does not belong on the failure shelf! He is fine the way he is, and I know your friend will love him!

I do find it funny you have a "failure shelf". I have something similar, but it is called, "The Wall of Shame". And rest assured the things there will NEVER see the light of day, or the flash of a camera. Bad, very bad things lurk there.

Failure shelf and wall of shame . . . . You guys crack me up.

Mine is called the LANDFILL - and then I don't have to look at them anymore.

Slow, that's so cute! The face is a little abstract for my taste. I love the rest! I don't know what the original image looked liked. Send her a pic and see what she thinks ( if it's not a surprise)

Slow,he is really cute and quacky and hey aren't we all sometimes?maybe he's having a bad hair day like we do sometimes, but i love him or her anyway,i think he is precious and cute and just a little abstract looking but a friend would love it.Annie

    The little engine could......I think I can...I think I can...I think I can......!!!YES YOU CANNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!

I don't have a failure shelf or wall of shame.....so funny..........I just throw mine and stomp...then to the dumpster.

    Slow, everyone believes in you!

If you need any help with the transfer paper, resizing images to fit your substrate, etc... don't hesitate to ask! It might get addicting! I want to try doing a parrot or a dachshund (I own and raise dachshunds), on a stepping stone. My flamingo is on wood and only indoors. Now I think I should do another one for an outdoor project. At least the pink plates are easy to find!

All of my walls of would be shame end up at the good will store. I drop them off wearing a paper bag over my head, motor still running, so I can rip out of there as fast as I can.

I have to agree with the rest of the girls. there isnt anything that the queen cant mosaic

Well, I'm in the same boat as you Slow, my wip is looking like a total disaster, I'm stumped as to what to do, I'm too gimped up to get at my equitment, can't do much but plug along and hope for the best I guess....

This is the absolute best I can do and as far as I'm done, after grouting this afternoon, this duck is cooked!!!!!!! Thank every one of you for your encouraging, wonderful words on something that is the hardest challenge I've found YET in mosaicing. Boy, it'll be a cold day south before I attempt something comparable. I ended up just drawing onto the glass the pieces w/permanent marker and cutting the head w/the ring saw. First butterfly was perfect, but it blended in too much w/the background that could never be decided upon, so what you see is what I did in frustration and lots of bad words.

Yep, that made a big difference on the duck. It's just adorable! I think putting the stem over his shoulder than over his face really helped. I can't believe you made that so fast - not sure why I'm saying that anymore. Cute as can be!

Grouted and ready for a hanger - it'll probably be a beaded, wiry thingy. Thanks all - I'm sick of this project.

Boy am I FRAZZLED. Copied the wrong one.

That looks so cute ! Looks like me most days ! LOL
I think we can all relate .

HEY! What a CUTE little duck!!! YOu did great!

You did it!!!! and it's adorable! gawds, I have no idea how you did this all in one day??? amazing

    That is one cute duck!
    Love it!
    Bianchi

Slow...do NOT make me fly there to shake you!!!!!! It is adorable. You did it!!! I love it. It looks so cute. You are the Queen and shall ever be!!!! I think it is funky and absolutely Freakin adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know why I'm stunned, but I am! You did this so quickly and it's really, really, wonderful! Maybe it's not the level of some of your other stuff-but I wouldn't call your other stuff cute, it's more romantic, and classic, IMO. But jeepers Slow, you are the queen of mosaic! For such a quick turn around, HOLY SCHMOLEY and then some lady!!

BTW, if you're not doing anything with the other one....a few of us may place bids, if you're willing. LOL

oh, the ducky came out so cute!! Love the hair! The border is perfect, more color! Bad words and all, you did good!!

    Maria

That is just adorable!! Makes you want to take the duck and give it a great big hug!

Y'all are something else. CHICKEE - you take the cake - many thanks. Y'all even compliment my failures. Er uh, didjy'all notice that the backerboard is in the shape of an egg? That was a happy accident. SUNSHINE: Email me your address and I'll send you one of the others, even though I'm embarrassed at its quality.

Slow, if that isn't the cutest thing!
I don't know how I missed this post.
We don't call you our Queen for nothing!

    Hazie

    Cindy

Are you kidding me?!!!!!!!!!!! YEE HAW!

Thanks HAZIE,KLINGER and SF, I can't believe you want it but just responded to your email - 'twill be in next week's mail.

Turned out just ducky-adorable............really cute Slow......you are and shall forever remain the Queen!!! I don't know how on earth you do it....you are amazing!

Good Grief... you did another ducky! How many??? I didn't read the posts... just saw your last link. What a surprise! I really did like the other one... but your new "frazzled" one is even cuter! Amazing... amazing... amazing!!! That is what YOU ARE!
    K.

Well thanks, GYPSIE and FIDDLE: FIDDLE - I read MOST every post EVERY DAY. Would you say that's an addiciton? If you'd read the posts, you'd know that I made two others and couldn't get it to where I was not embarrassed to send it to my friend. Still don't like it, but it's the best I could do. In a conversation w/ROSIE this evening, she said I was too intent on copying the image. That was a lesson for me, ROSIE. If I had time, I'd do it again and forget the image I was sent to replicate, and go w/something completely different. NOT gonna do another one, though.

Luv the oval base and Totally frazzled look, it conveys so much character!!! And like the grout color!

Thanks, CALAM. I couldn't help myself, and added those little alphabet letters kinda crazy-like, and, of course, a heart and the gold pen technique around the edges of the backerboard. The high gloss sealer on the grout enhanced it a bit. Decided to just drill a small nail hole for a hanger.

    Slow it's so darn cute!
Love addition of the little letters.
It's just adorable! She will really treasure it.

    Hazie

It's those little details that make it work!!!

Da-haanng woman!! That is one cute duck. Kinda looks like me when I first get up in the morning.
I knew you could do it.."found something you can't mosaic"? HA!!

Ya'll I saw both of these last week....they both are precious! Love the egg shape on the second one, but they're both really cute!

    Pat

    Man! That is freakin' fantastic!
    It really is!
What was the board you used? I love how it is rough and uneven.
    Betsy

Thanks again, y'all - FOXY - it's backerboard I used a tile nipper on to rough up the edges.

Slow- I love both the ducks! They're fun! So...I guess you still haven't found anything you can't mosaic!
