Found concrete column- column experts, pls advise

I found this tall square heavy concrete 'thing' in my yard. Actually there are two of them. Until I saw pix of columns, nothing ever dawned on me, as far as using this concrete thing for a mosaic column.

It measures almost 2 feet tall. I also found a square brick like thing. The advice I need, is, would it be a good idea to mortar the two pieces together so it is free standing? Of course I would mosaic both bottom and the column. If that were advised, what are the chances (other than falling or dropping), that the two would come apart?

Would it be fine just without the bottom and set in between the plants in the garden area?

When I am done, what about the top? I was thinking perhaps a solid faux marble cobalt blue ball or glass ball, although I am not sure where to get one. Maybe the size of a large ball Xmas ornament or larger? Thinking ahead....

Perfect for mortaring together! I've done that with concrete drainage tiles ans square bricks. I just wire brushed off the dirt first and dampened the area to be mortared then mortar.

Calamity: OMG! That dragonfly! What a piece of mosaic yard art..that is awesome! Do women come up with useful items to mosaic or what? I can't believe I did not know what this cement tall thing was. The man that used to rent my house in the front (before he moved), used bricks and cement knick-knacks, for holding down the plywood over his crates of firewood. Glad he left them behind!

Thank you for your advice. I look forward to working on this piece soon and I will follow the method as you described to me. Grinning from ear to ear.....

OH, OH, OH - what a SUPER FIND, in your own yard! Lucky duck. It's a perfect subject for mosaics. Mortar the two together, and you could even sit it on a larger concrete pad. For the top, under your gazing ball you can mortar another smaller stepping stone, or a round plant saucer turned over. Since you've seen everyone's albums, on my front column - listed in "My Queendom", under the giant glass ball on top is a large plant saucer overturned. Makes a perfect place to place your finial. All kinds of things can be purchased for finials. In my album - Shea's Tower - listed in "Tower Installation" - I used a resin thingy from Hobby Lobby. Your pedestal w/be fun to watch.
