oops, forgot to metion what I'm making - this was inspired by Lisa's chess board. I fixed up a little table with a recessed top and will be making a red, black and gold checker game board. I've repaired the table, sanded and painted it black, still need to do a white on the substrate.

this will be pretty errrr or at least it is in my head! lol

I'm sure it's going to look great! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Well, my experiments have been with acrylic paint and metallic spray paint (I liked the gold best-tried silver and copper, too). Maybe a hit of black spray paint.

Scored on the glass side, no problem. I'm careful with it but it doesn't seem too,too sensitive

I think acrylic will tend to peel. Probably the best to use would be glass or ceramic paints. Then they will cure and be more durable.

I've used acrylic on items, but usually it was cut already.

I haven't had any problems with my painted glass. I used regular acrylic metalic paint, but finished with a black enamel spray paint. You have to scrub REALLY hard to scratch it off. I haven't used metal leaf, but I've seen it at Hobb Lobb. I think Slow has experience with it.
Cutting isn't a problem, but grinding does chip the color. If I have to grind Van Fo, sometimes I'll go back and touch up the edge with a marker or paint. It's usually just 1/16".

Several years ago I bought about 12 sq ft of this glass from Delphi. I was gonna make some candle shelters with it. That never happend. So now I'm thankful to have found a way to use it.

I've only experimented that one time, and haven't had time to do anymore, but I used both acrylic and the glass paints. There were teensy chips on some of the acrylic, but not enough to notice, and yes, score on the glass side. Gold leaf was bought at HobLob. Taking a trip to Bro's w/a Jeep-load of stuff today. W/be back Monday and hope to see your first WIP. Nah - you'll probably have it finished by then.

awe bummer, the red with amber is unavailable... I didn't really need it but it was the first time I came across it on a list since I sent my last piece to chickee.

So... if you wanted to make a black van faux? I got black metallic acrylic (which dosen't look very metallic) There needs to be some other tone to highlight right? what if I dry brush gold into the textures and then do black? I want that depth to contrast with the opaque black waterglass, and it needs to be very little gold as opposed to black. mmmmmmmmm???

Just dry brush with the gold? I think that would give you what you describe

A couple of weeks ago I ordered and recieved :::looks around to see if hubby can see screen - nope - coast is clear::: $1100 worth of glass. I've never had so much fun in my LIFE as when I unpacked it and carefully placed each piece in the shelf DH built for me. The glass was so gorgeous that it even drew three teenagers into the room for several hours, oohing and aaahing over the different colors and textures. My imagination is still on overload with the thought of all of the projects I have in store!

So, you show me your projects, and I'll show you mine, k?

(BTW - glass drooling is slippery work - go ahead and put a bib on ~ lol)

Slow, ya caught me girl - I finally got an idea for the mushroom and started mortaring yesterday. LOL I'm winging it with glass that I had so that's underway. but again, slowly by virtue of it being outdoors. So I can only work on it in the daylight.

The glass that came today is for my checker game table. I just checked the paint job on the table this evening, after 3 coats I finally like it. So that's drying.

Now, I'm making van faux in black and red... glue chip is cool!!!

OOOh, icheer, even my mild mannered DH would have a fit about that much glass ( all at once, anyway LOL).

So, icheer, NT want some pics of all that glass so I can cyber-drool over it !!

Trying to use what I have here, still need to buy the StepD shoes, so no buying sprees in the near future. Need to start up with eBay to make some play money! I did score some foil supplies at a garage sale cheap so maybe I can make some!

I just started a thread titled Stained Glass, Mosaics and Work Area where I've attempted to share my photo album on Snapfish. Dunno if I did it correctly~lol!

Hubby is super supportive of my love of all things glass ... I must admit that the $1100 order was just a wee bit more than we'd agreed on but the glass was soooo pretty and it was on sale! lol Besides, he said I have a lot of spending to do to catch up with his hobby - fishing - especially when you count the new boat in the driveway :-) He's a generous man and I hate to run out of supplies mid project, so it's just easier to have a nice stock here at home so I can work/play when the mood strikes :-)

nice- must admit I cringed (made myself feel guilty!!!) when you said you gave me your last piece of red w/ amber. I love that piece of glass and the glass thats on my bowl (which is still in my living room!!!) I still have that piece of glass and I haven't been able to find another like it either!!!!

icheer...aw I so wish I got that amount of glass!!!! I'm fortunate my DH is very tolerant of my glass hobbies to but he would choke on that dollar amount!! Happy cutting!!!

OH no no don't feel bad, I was happy to share it! Alpine was listing a red water glass with amber and I thought WOO HOO, but then they emailed to say it was sold out... I'll find it again one day.

Course I may just be totally in love with creating my own van faux... this is too fun! Shrty, the gold brushing under black worked perfectly!!! love it!

when it's dry enough to flip over and shoot, I will do that. Right now, every time a layer dries, I add more paint. It's so exciting to see it. Gosh, I unpacked that glass today and all I could do to get dinner made so I could paint... he heeee Heck I should be in bed now but waiting for gold to dry so I can put on the red... lol

Okay, the gold is antique glass meaning, it looks like it has creases in it. I didn't buy gold foil but painted it instead using light inca gold with added pigment, then I did red over that and black to seal. Very pretty!

The red isn't showing well at all, sorry. It's black rubbed into the texture and sprayed with red glitter, then copper then red. Sealed with black too.

I'm most thrilled with this black and decided to use it as the black squares on the checker board. Sprayed lightly with gold glitter, brushed on and wiped off gold paint then painted black and sealed black.

It is so contrasting with the black water glass, amazing! I love doing this!!!! and since you can't get a black van gogh, this piece will be one of a kind!!!!

Well you l'il heifer. Couldn't help myself! Those are just plain scrumptious. That checker set w/also be one of a kind that only you, l'il girl, could come up with. I soooooo admire your talent. LOVE those colors, especially the gold, and I know what you mean - the colors just don't show on camera, but these paint techniques are really, REALLY fun. What pigment did you add to the gold, and where did you get it?

oooh pretty..I love the black!!! The red and the gold are the same glass correct? I like the black cause like you said you can't buy it so you have a one of a kind glass!!!
