I think it looks fine , but why don't you try adding a few flowers to it, Jane does wonderful work with those china flowers she picks up, that would really make it pretty,

Looks pretty as is but a tiny rose would be pretty on it too.

Not boring at all. You could easily add either roses or pearls, but how about BOTH? Love the pattern on the tesserae - bet your DD loves it, too.

I can sand the sides down some. It's not fully cleaned up yet. But, what about string of pearls around the mirror area? What do you think of painting the grout light pink?

I will look the next time I go out for some small flowers. I have a metal one, but that just wouldn't go. I think a porcelain flower or rose would do better.

Ok. Here is what I did with your suggestions. I think it really helped, but the flower would've been even better. Didn't have time to really look for one. These are old pearls I have had but haven't worn since my son was born.

Still need to clean silicone off of the mirror. Pretty happy with it.

Thanks guys! I really like this and I am now planning on doing a shelf to go with it as soon as I get enough tesserae. I still have some of this vase left but need a lot more stuff to go with it. I found the shelf tucked in the attic when I was looking for Halloween decorations. IT was totally forgotten about in there. I will remember to look for flowers next time I'm out and about!

Hazie-Not REAL pearls, costume jewelry. They were a bridesmaid gift. I have dozens of strands of pearls-most came from weddings I had been in back when I was MUCH younger. I have thought several times about pulling some old jewelry out of my box and playing with them. I don't wear any costume stuff anymore, so they could be useful in another way now.

You are so lucky to have a stash of costume jewelry. I keep hoping I'll run into someone at a garage sale with some.

DD really LOVES it! I can't wait to get the shelf done to go with it. Will probably have to wait until after Christmas. May take that long to gather the tesserae and find more pearls. Didn't think I'd like SC but it's pretty nice and works really well in her bedroom with the white furniture.

I wanted to do my daughter's room kinda SC, I painted all her furniture white and wanted do it pink with the lacey bed curtain, and add some SC stuff........she OBJECTED! I guess I waited too long, she was 12.
