I like it. Looks very nice!

    beautiful!!!

    thanks everyone!

blfenton: the color will come when i buy art for the wall opposite the mirrors & add the table decor. i wanted to keep the rest of the room neutral so that i can change the pop color on a whim. i go from wanting rust to wanting lime green in a blink of an eye.

Ohhh - lime green would be stunning.

I think it's amazing how a couple of additions lift the room to a whole new level, love it!

The drapery panels look great! Just need to be shortened.

Sorry, not a fan of the mirrors. I think they take away from the panel moulding and the view behind the great pendant light. Kind of dated, too -- they remind me of mirrors that were in my dad's law offices in the 70's and 80's.

You might consider a rich electric blue as an accent, too.

    Very pretty...love the drapes!

    So lovely!

Love the colors in the room, but I tend to agree with les917, not a fan of the mirrors. The diagonal line really fights with the panel molding. While the drapes have a similar diagonal line, they are slightly more subtle and they tie the colors together.

I think that the earlier discussion about the drapes steered you in the right direction. They were a great choice. I was wondering if you have considered blinds or shades for privacy beneath the drapes. I think shades would be the most discreet. You don't want to ruin the simple elegance of your design. I like Bali Blinds. They are the perfect balance between cost and quality and I have found their website to be really helpful. They have an "ask the expert" tool and a virtual decorator tool that allows you to plug in wall color, etc. when choosing fabrications and colors. They will even send you free swatches.

The "before" picture was gorgeous and I love the "after" even more. I think the mirrors are wonderful and unique. If you stopped right here and didn't add any color, I think it would be beautiful. There's nothing wrong with a monochromatic room. If you want to add color, I can definitely see a lime or apple green.

looks great. I like your table and chairs. The window treatments looks great--would you mind sharing where you got them?

Love, love, love it! I love color, but I also love understated, elegant, monochromatic rooms. I think you nailed it!

I'm sorry, but I do not like the mirrors; they are the one false note in your otherwise lovely room.

    Beautiful, great job!

thanks! for those of you who do not like the mirrors, what would you like to see on that wall? would it make a difference if i hung the mirrors straight? personally, i still like them despite some negative comments.

the drapes are from west elm for anyone who asked.

I love the mirrors...and the yummy wall color. Fabulous room!

I really like both the drapes and mirrors -- they give your room a contemporary feel. I would have hung the rod a little higher, just under the molding, but I probably wouldn't go to the trouble to move it; it is fine just as it is. You have a lovely room!!

hoosiergirl: i wanted to hang the rod higher but the way the brackets are made it impossible because i have to slide the bracket over a screwed in plate and the molding got in the way if i screwed it any higher.

    thanks all!

These might be another alternative if you wanted to look at something different and lighter.

    Nice room!

By the way, how do I put that link at the bottom like I see some of you doing? I'm not very computer savy when it comes to that. :)

Alicate, just use theOptional Link URL box under where you posted your message. Paste the link in that box, and then in the Name of the Link box type in something like "Pottery Barn Tin Tiles"

ok, I'm not wild about the mirrors but they're fine. What I'd prefer to see is the morrocan mirrors for real pizazz here instead of the foyer.

I actually am not a drapes person and know the puddling is a bit dated but like it anyway.

i am going to have them hemmed a little shorter, but they'll still puddle a little. as for the quatrefoil mirror that i'm looking at for the foyer, it's way too expensive to get more than one of those.

I forgot to mention that I love your wall color, light fixture and chairs! The whole room is really stunning! Great job!

Understand. Would 1 work if it's large enough? I really think the shape would be wonderful here.

Also, don't know the how the big box one dianalo referred compares, but that might be worth considering even if it needs sprucing up a bit..

Love it, and think the mirrors work with the pattern in the drapes and the overall vibe.
I vote for no puddle though. It has a clean, neat look and the puddles are for very traditional drapes.
The lime green will be amazing. Teal would also pop. The best part is you can rotate a bunch of colors in, such as coral, orange, yellow, dark purple, etc....

"for those of you who do not like the mirrors, what would you like to see on that wall? would it make a difference if i hung the mirrors straight?"

If you like threes, perhaps a triptych painting, that is in three discrete pieces of a single subject but each panel is different. Personally, I think when you have three identical anything it looks as though you can buy the item by the dozen and it seems less valuable as a decorative accessory for that reason--- there's no sense that the object was picked out for any special qualities but rather picked up because you could get the right quantity to fill a space. A big, beautiful single mirror, something unexpected, perhaps? An antique mirror of unusual shape would be a surprising note, with wavy glass or mottled surface. Or one large painting? I do like your light fixture very much and everything else, it all looks chosen, except the mirrors.

Love the wall color, love the drapes. re they custom?

Yes, I think the mirrors would be better straight, but what do I know.

Funny... my initial reaction on seeing the room with the mirrors and drapes was that I absolutely loved it. Then I started reading the comments about the mirrors not going with the paneling, and on second look, I kind of agree. The paneling is more traditional-looking, and the mirrors very mod - which I love, but not sure they go together. Absolutely love the curtains, though! I recognized them from West Elm, and they're perfect in the room. Agree that they shouldn't puddle though.

All said, thought - beautiful room!!! Can't wait to see it with the accent color du jour. ;-)

I love every single thing about the room, except the mirrors. I don't have a suggestion, but for me, they just don't work with the rest of the elegant room.

I love the room overall! Drapes are fantastic and I absolutely love your light fixture as well as the gorgeous curves on your dining room chairs. I'm just not a fan of the mirrors. I didn't read the other comments about them but my first thought it that the dark moldings are a bit thick & dark.

The quatrefoil mirror from Horchow - I love it but understand that x2, that's a hefty price tag. What about something else that has the light, shimmery quality? Sorry - don't have any suggestions - just think the lines of the mirrors are a bit heavy.

I really do like everything else though (and really - if YOU like them, that's all that really matters).

I love your room. The drapes are beautiful (why not add some trim to the bottom (up a few inches) or the sides in the coordinating color you're searching for). I don't think they should puddle so much. Maybe an inch break on the floor or a two- three inch puddle.

I don't really like the mirrors either. For me, they bring a cheese factor. Maybe a really large picture or a large mirror (maybe an ornate one to offset the modern you're pulling out in there.)instead? Or, an oval or round mirror with pictures on the side. I think you need some sort of tension between the modern furnishings and the traditional home. How about three pictures in silvertone (ie wood- or plated silver) frames (if you're trying to stay modern)?

I don't know if you'll have enough room... How about a thin buffet with two rectangle (if you want to repeat the rectangle thing you've got going on with the moulding and the chandelier)crystal block lamps on it with a picture or mirror between? Second thought. Everything is just too angular. How about oval or round things. How about pole crystal lamps or those ubiquitous gourd lamps? The mirrors are just not enough or too small or just something. Some wow factor is needed. I don't know. I'm not a designer. But, I hope that you find that perfect setup! Besides that, it's a beautiful calming room. Love all the moulding!

I think the mirrors mimic the pattern in the drapes. They would look nice painted white, also.

Such varied opinions !! fun to read. I've always been a big fan of puddling so I think yours look amazing. Shortened to barely graze the floor, they'll look ordinary, imo....

Your room looks great but I too am not a big fan of the mirrors, in view of the classiness of your chairs and light fixture; I think that wall deserves something
helftier and wow worthy, a big statement kick ass mirror in a very ornate frame would be my choice, just to glam it up. The room can carry it for sure.
Expensive probably but so worth it ! although I've come across mirrors at Z Gallery and other medium priced stores that astounded me with how nice they were for a reasonable enough price tag. Just a thought.

I love your room. The furniture is beautiful and the while I might not have thought of mirrors, they look just right on the wall. Hanging them straight would not give the same look though

i appreciate all of your input. however, in the end, i still love the look of those mirrors in there. i'll be putting art on other walls. yes, i will have the drapes hemmed, but they will still break/sweep on the floor.

i have so much art to find for other important areas of my house at this point (like a big blank wall in my great room)...if anyone has suggestions for that, let me know.

    this is the room:

this is the one picture i have in the room now:

this is the wall i need art for:

Love your room! Will you share the wall/trim colors, please?

I like that you have mixed the modern with the traditional.

For a pop of color I'd try some rich, bright-ish, indigo blue or some hot fuschia-like pink!

Could you add some metal curtain *hold-backs* that match the rod that would allow them to puddle at the sides only during the daytime hours?

Maybe you would not have to hem them, if so.

Honestly, who would care if they touched the floor after you've closed them and gone to bed? LOL

    Again, love the room!

Maybe you should try the mirrors in the family room on the big blank wall. Below them either a console table with a couple of interesting lamps to bring in some height, or long upholstered bench for some color and softness, That would fill the wall space nicely. The mirrors feel like they belong in that space.

I just noticed how the mirrors reflected on the wall in almost a perfect replica of the shapes in the wt. They must stay ;) I think your putting them on the diagonal works wonderfully and to turn them would ruin the effect.
I like how the curve on the chairs and the curve on the wts have each other, but the rest is very linear. I don't think you could have found a better combo.... This will be a very versatile room despite also being distinct.

I like the mirrors. They mimic the molding of the wainscotting in that they have both an outside and an inside frame. The colour ties in with the table and chairs. Hanging them on the point as you did, again mimics the pattern in the curtain. I think they tie in with most of your elements. There is nothing wrong with bringing in a contemporary detail into an otherwise traditional room - I think it brings some interest to the room.

could you tell me the paint color in your dining room. i want to pass it on to my sister ;) thanks!

Is the curtain rod the only thing that is nickel or SS in that room? I feel like if it was dark to match the mirror trim, it would all be pulled together better. (It could be just the photos, though. I know your table is dark, like the mirror trim. It just doesn't seem there is a dark element up high, to balance the dark trim of the mirrors, up high. Does that even make sense?;))

It is very lovely as is. I love the drapes in there. I feel the same way about getting sick of colors and sticking with neutrals overall. I love the neutrals you have.... even without adding any pops of color.

Love your style!! Can you tell me where you bought your dining room table and chairs? They are just beautiful. I read some, not all, of the comments on your mirrors. I like the shape and style, I think it is the frame color that bothers me. It looks too dark in an otherwise pretty monochromatic room. Maybe its just the photo but your eye jumps right to the mirrors instead of flowing around the room. Just my two cents :)

I like the mirrors. They are winking at the curtains, if you know what I mean.

I like the mirrors and feel they go with the table. I would like to see some more color in the room with maybe red flowers on the table or red wax apples on the table in a pretty crystal bowl. I also love your TV room!

    missyv: it's BM rustic taupe

lolauren: yes, it's the only nickel in the room. i was going for the ORB but the drapes only come with the polished nickel grommets so an ORB rod/brackets would look stupid. I'll try to bring in more polished nickel with accessories.

kimwok: the table is from Hickory Chair and the chairs are from Crate & Barrel.

beekeeperswife: always love a compliment from you! thanks! you really did right by me with the kitchen backsplash.

lynn2006: i'm thinking of lime green as my accent color (but maybe that's too springy). maybe rust for the fall. looking for big art for the opposite wall.

You have an absolutely gorgeous dining room. I thought I would hold my "tongue" (typiing fingers, ha ha) but since others have mentioned it... I'm not a big fan of those mirrors, either. I like the idea of mirrors on those walls, but I don't think those are the right mirrors. If YOU like them, though, that's all that matters. I don't think they mimic the wainscoting at all, and they look a little plastic-y to me and for some reason remind me of a jester. :-) (The diamond shape, I guess.) I might put a row of similarly-sized wood mirrors (white or dark wood) oriented so that they are square, or, a very large mirror.

That is purely my opinion (obviously.) I think you have a wonderful room with which to work - love the wall color and wainscoting.

funny i came across your posting because i was looking for pics of 'rustic taupe'. i'll weigh in... i LOVE the drapes. i do not like the mirrors. my 02. cents. sorry :( i think maybe some blue or red accented art work would look just amazing! great job though.
