Sorry to hear of the Marvin failures. Can you please tell us what models and what sort of failures? Marvin offers 20-year warranty so are they not honoring it?

We installed Marvin some 4+ years ago and so far so good. It is good to know of your experience just in case something goes wrong with ours too.

    Thanks!

Eagle Windows fail too. I've replaced many of them in one development this year.

Do yourself a favor and choose a wood window that doesn't use a metal spacer between the glass. You'll be happier.

What made the Marvins fail? Do you mind describing the failure?

our Marvin windows were wood exterior coated with their "XL" finish. The wood preserver that they used under the finish failed so the wood in all the sills and vertical trim boards litterally disappered under the XL finish. It is a mess!
After seeing last month's consumer report rating Marvin Integrity line #1 we went to see them-they definitely are a much better window than we had installed 13 yrs ago. as the dealer said "the XL crisis almost put them out of business so they had to retool and make a better window"
Just the thought of going back to Marvin windows scares me but they are offering us a substantial discount that is hard to resist.
I am in the harware business and I hear horror stories all the time about almost every brand of window! This search is so frustrating-all windows look great in the showrooms! How do the stand up over time?
Many of the homes on our coastline seem to be installing Eagle windows and they do look great [in the showroom]. They aren't cheap$$$!! We are getting estimates from them and Marvin today-hope I don't faint!

I remember finding something similar when researching windows 5 years ago before we bought our Marvin windows. The wood in the Marvin windows were deteriorating, a class action suit was filed and Marvin in turn sued the chemical company that manufactured the anti-fungal dip for the wood. That chemical company settled, I think, and in turn, Marvin offered everyone affected replacement or some sort of heavily discounted fix. At least that was what I read on-line.

    Good luck with your research!

I have not found one window company that has not had some sort of failure at one time or another. In the windows that I have used I have found Pella to be the most responsive. Are they perfect no the trick is to find a salesman that is a professional and not one who is in it for the quick buck which in the building cliame right now is not about to happen. Talk to him/her extensivley and get comfortable with how they react to your questions..do not hesitate to ask for references homeowners or contractors they have worked with in the past. I have found an excellant re who works with me and promptly takes care of any issues. I recently had a painter lose hardware for 15 windows and he replaced it with no questions asked, a ladder went through a screen and he ook care of that too, he is a professional and definatley in it for the long haul
