D3bbi: Just for giggles, on a scrap piece you might try using a black permanent marker around the letters to see if that makes the names pop more.

Reads easily, and I LOVE those daisies. What was the size of your little strips you used to make those? They are so wonderful, and what is your substrate? Looks like marble. REALLY like these a lot.

Very creative idea for name plaques! Love the touchability idea as well! Both the girls are sure to treasure them as they grow up.

Very nice! I too was thinking of some black grout around the marbles, but now that a marker has been mentioned, I think that or paint would look good also! I did my chicken/rooster eyes with perm marker underneath to highlight the eyes, and I think it just tweeked them!

Thanks for your suggestions. I thought of paint, or marker is a good idea, but I am afraid of messing them up. Maybe on a scrap something will be good.

Slow, the substrate is hardiplanks - the concrete planks used for siding. My DH sided our house with them last year and I save ALL of the left overs. I've been using them for plaques like this. I either paint the edges, cover them with ribbon, or rope. I think they are about 18" long.

D - I can't quite make out if you've mosaiced the hardiplank or what? Is the background done in different shades of off-white or pearlized glass? Also, what are the sizes of your teensy daisy petal pieces. Looks like they're about 1/4" and rounded on the outside. I really like these plaques.

I think they look great, too. Since someone already mentioned the black outline, I'll also make a similar suggestion. Do you have any thin dark tiles? If there's room, stick them in between the marbles. Not too big...ie: not wider than the marbles. But it would give just another neat texture, and maybe make those letters pop off the plates. It's gorgeous work, btw, and love the gerbers!!!

Slow, I mosaiced directly on the hardiplank. I used Weldbond and have not had any problem with them. I've made a few this past year. I paint the edges and back just so it looks nice.

The daisy pieces are about 1/4" width (the smallest I could cut) and then, yes, I ground the edges to round them off. It was a LOT of work to grind all of those pieces. And a lot of cut fingers.

The background glass is a Spectrum yellow iridized with a mustard colored grout. The yellow iridized is very light yellow. It's the same color I used on the mailbox.

MM, thanks for the suggestion but since it's grouted there is no possibility of sticking tiles in between the glass nuggets.

I think they are adorable just as they are and will be soooo cute in the twins room!
