WOW!! Chick thats really nice. I haven't done one with foil.Slow has though. On my painted Van Fo, I used black spray paint on the back. I think it deepens the color.

Thanks bama, I will use some black spray paint on the back to try and deepen my color.

Jane- I bought a gold leafing kit and KINDA followed the directions. I painted the glass with the red base (then wiped it off to leave just the highlights) let that dry overnite then painted on the adhesive, let that sit for 30 minutes then put the piece of gold leaf over it rub then sprayed 3 coats of sealer (acrylic) over it to seal the gold leaf.

It really was quick and easy. Hopefully it will hold up to cutting!!!

I think that is fantastic!! I put some gold leafing on the back of a few of my glass globs. And here I thought that was inevative. I am SO far behind!!

I find if I pop my glas fast there was no problem with the pant peeling off .I realy do like how ypou have done that .Love the color.

Wow, that's really pretty. I scored a gold leaf kit at a garage sale!! NOw I need some texured glass.

NO! You can't tumble. You can't tumble Van Gogh either. I suppose you could go ahead and cut your glass, tumble, THEN put your gold leaf or paint on each seperate piece. But dang, can you imagine how long that would take??

Great job, CHICKEE. Isn't it fun? I'm always looking for purple glass, and LOVE the color fuchia, and now that we know how to do this, there's no color we can't have. DO NOT TUMBLE VAN GOGH!!! I ruined a whole tumbler full of the real thing - forgot it and ran it waaaaaaay too long.

Those are beautiful ! Funny, I just did two myself. It's hard at first painting in reverse.I put too much gold in mine. I also experimented with a " Van Glow" I used some glow in the dark sealer and just brushed it on. I was too impatient to let each coat dry, so some of it peeled off. It glowed a bit, not as I would like. It won't be great with GOG as I had hoped to do a moon with it, but maybe on some other substrate it will work.. I will just have to try!
I'll have to charge batteries in my camera to get a photo.

The sheets of this glass are almost too pretty to cut up~ I want to just keep looking at them. You did a great job ( much better than mine) : )

That glass looks beautiful! I can't believe how it looks like the real thing. Is there an old post somewhere that explains this technique? It seems like there are different ways of doing it. I would love to try this and save a lot of money instead of buying the real thing.

I'm interested in learning how you did this also. It looks beautimous!

I wasn;t trying to mislead you girls but the Copper van faux is mine the purple one IS van gogh glass that I put next to it for comparison. Im sorry if I mis lead any of you.

This is what I had clipped from slowmedown back in July -Hope this helps you all!!!

SHADES: By dry application on the first part is: Brush the whole sheet w/black paint, w/paper towel, wipe off so that only the texture shows in black - you know - like when you faux-finish walls - you put the dark on, wipe off to leave the shadows of the dark. Then paint w/your regular colors - metallics are fabulous. Then, there are the iridescent enamels - do the same but I used two coats of that. The last coat is another black. On the gold leaf tiles, mentioned in BAMA's thread, I put the adhesive on, then gold leaf, then the red basecoat that is recommended UNDER gold leaf for the old world effect, then a coat of black. ROSIE was just here, and she said the faux Van Gogh looks so authentic. We can't tell the difference in the ones we bought and the ones I made. In fact, the purple looks like the same shade of paint. She said "poor Maria - just lost customers". Seriously, I'll never BUY Van Gogh again. It's so satisfying to DIY. I'm making this up but I'll just bet that's how the VG is made - paint on textured glass then baked on. Now I know how I'm gonna treat a concrete pig I've had sitting out back for more than a year - PINK VAN GOGH w/purple accents.

Oh, thanks, CHICKEE, for bringing that up. I would have had to search for an hr. to find it. Been busy today. BTW - I changed my mind on using the FVG on the pig - it w/fade outside, of course, so w/only use my FVG for inside projects.

I was hoping you wouldn't have minded me cutting and pasting that. I have it saved in my clippings for some day when I decide to buy the paint and try it!!

Oh and MEADEL- I didnt get to say thank you and you should post some of those pictures of the Van Faux that you did...we would love to see them...and if we have never said it before I will say it again "welcome". I read your "my page" and can so relate with you!!! Put that helmet on!!!
