First Christmas Gift

This small "secretary" is for a good friend I met in the Foreign Service in 1981! She currently works for the American Ambassador in San Salvador. Hopefully she will retire next year and buy a house nearby. I'm trying to entice her with my mosaics! I lined the box with French-inspired paper and embossed the inside of the lid with velvet-like paper with a travel related stamp. My last name is embossed in the upper left corner. The two sides and back were simply painted gold, although I did rub on letters that say "Love Letters", "Cards" and her three initials on the backside.

    Thanks for your compliments y-all!
Chickee: The velvet-like paper I found in NH at an "art" store. They sold tons of papers, stamps, scrapbooking supplies, etc. I fell in love with the paper and only had 5 sheets left. Went looking in Michael's to no avail and Hobby Lobby only had HUGE sheets of a lavender color on clearance. I'm guessing they used it their framing departments. BUT the manager said they don't carry it anymore. DRAT!

How beautiful! I love how you put all the pieces, paint, paper, etc. together to make such a wonderful box. I could never cut those diamonds as precisely. Great work.

Absolutely stunning! THere's no doubt...she will cherish it throughout her life just as she cherishes your friendship!

This is another "hold the phone" project. I had to re-read your comment re the paper liner. At first I thought you'd mosaiced the inside when I saw the diamond shapes. This is simply magnificient. BTW - what kind of gold paint did you use. I'm working on a project that w/call for gold paint. I have several kinds, but am thinking of the gold leaf paint that's oil based. As much as I hate using oil-based paints, it DOES give a nicer effect. Yours looks richer than the acrylic gold. BEAUTIFUL box, and so unique.

SLOW: The paint is a DecoArt metallic Venetian Gold.
