There are special screws at the HW store for the hardibacker...no need to predrill, won't crack. The heads of these screws "imbed" in the hardibacker so the surface is even when you put your thinset...or adhesive of choice over it.

Since I ended up covering my holes in my bath backsplash, I had to drill new ones in the back of the backerboard after it was mosaiced. (Put screws in studs and then kind of hung the backerboard on the head of the screw.)So, in my case, it took quite a bit of abuse and no problems.

Yeah, I got a little of that going on, too (covered up the screw-holes...said "I'll just rip it off later when I need to mount it.")
Just made more work for myself is what I did...

I just want this project to be OVER! I wanna move on to something ELSE! Well, at least I can see the light now...there IS an end, and it WILL be done by the weekend, so then I CAN start thinking about something else. Thinking the coffee table,
or the freebie glass piece for a GOG,
or the bathroom door,
or the bathroom soffit (SC...but no, that's too big, and too much like this backsplash project...that'll have to wait),
or the little squatty pitcher that I got,
or the snake-charmer-looking vase thing,
or...or...

Heheheh We got her hooked now don't we. :^))) And they say the first try of Meth is addicting. Rolling eyes. We all KNOW the first try of mosaics is just as bad. Welcome to our insanity MM. Hehehehehe Giggling myslef off to bed.
