Trunk Top Done

LOL I know this is goofy as can be. I seem to be getting this way myself more every day.

The flower tiles are what I found in the bottom of my closet yesterday. I have been toying with this trunk mosaic idea for a long time. The flower tiles were bought for something else I never did and then I did forget about them.

There are leather things and metal things on the top of the trunk I needed to mosaic around so there is no way to do it all nice and flat with tiles. So I added some really thick cut up china I had to the mix.

My camera has color issues. Also the flash makes it look like there is grout haze but it is all clean. The china bits are the exact colors in the flowers and the grout is a willow green. I tried very hard to get the pictures to show up right.

I will clean up the wood more after the grout dries some more. Still working on it. The trunk needs a good coat of urethane or something.

    I can't see the pictures, Chris ... just getting a Red X.

Wow.. find the tiles one day.. have them glued AND grouted the next day! YOU are FAST! That is going to be a beautiful trunk, Chris! Can you do a pic from a bit of a distance... can't quite picture the whole thing. It's a full size trunk?

Let me try again. Sorry Something is happening to me on this end. GW is not loading all the way for me. I can not get past 16 items waiting to down load down in the bar. It is hanging on an autum leaves banner or something. I am doing everything to try to get past this and I am STUCK. GRRR

Try copy pasting the links. Maybe they will come through. Sorry for the bother .

I LIKE THAT!!!! really pretty trunk now. I agree I'd like to see a distance shot too. The mosaic work is top notch, especially having to work around all those doo dads.

OK I re-booted dumped cookies and cussed a little and so far so good. LOL

We can do NOTHING in this house with out supervision. Hope this helps. It is a full sized trunk and I only want to do the top. I have wanted to use it as a coffee table for a long time but it is always hard to find a safe place to set the wine glass. Hehehe So I filled in the slots with tiles. It is not perfectly flat but has been wine glass tested and it is OK.

The top picture makes me think of a quilt. I never would have thought to use whole tiles like that. Very nice.

How clever! Oh yeah, a girls gotta have a place to put her wine glass! Glad you found those tiles.

Oh, that's VERY pretty. It looks like you're working with the trunk's hardware, and incorporating that into your design. How clever you are! I really like that you're just doing the top.

Oh how beautiful it is with your couch! Lovely

Oh yeah - that is really nice!!

See . . we got to talking about that trunk and look what you do!! My trunk has a convex top, unfortunately, so I can't use it as a coffee table. Maybe that's why it's not speaking to me.

that is awesome. looks good with the couch.....barb

Aw Thanks Everyone!! I have had this trunk thing on my mind for quite awhile I just was not sure what to do with it. When I found the tiles in the bottom of the closet I knew it was time to do the trunk. I did have to cut the floral tiles down a quarter inch on each side to get them to fit in the slots. Nip Nip Nip. I thought my hands were going to break.

I also have a small trunk with a curved top. It is VERY OLD covered in soft leather that is all torn. It deserves to be done over. I think in glass some day. It is in my TBM stash.

I think taking the day away from my little dresser was good and tomorrow I will be ready to go back to it. Tease ,no pictures yet. I am stepping WAY WAY WAY out o fmy box on this one. I think this is why it is so hard for me to do.

I have a weakness for trunks, chests, boxes etc. You've made this oldie very sophisticated. LOVE it.

Very pretty. What a great trunk. You did a great job - and something very different. I like it!!

    That is really nice.

Another beautiful job Chris...it looks so victorian next to your couch.really like you tiles on it it.

Hi and Thanks again every one for being so nice about this project. I do like it and every time I look at it I am glad I took the chance and just went for it. I kept thinking it might not be good to do this to an antique. But heck it is not really all that good and things are broken on the trunk as far as latches and handles. And best is now it is really useable.

I spent the day clearing up the guest room. I need to set it up for guests that will be coming on and off for the next couple of months. 90% of my mosaic stash is in that room and I have done three projects and bought all that scrap glass and stacks of dishes and had one heck of a mess in there. I got everything nipped up sorted and stashed back away where I hope I can find it again as needed with out making another big mess. Yah Right.

You can store those supplies in the trunk. They make wonderful storage space.
