I like my table a bit higher so I can sit on a barstool and work. My top is made from 3/4" plywood. The size is 3 x 5'.
I don't have any storage under it as this table also doubles as my light box for when I'm doing stained glass panels. (I take off the plywood top and my 1/4" plate glass is underneath that, recessed into the top of the table).

It would be great to have a pull out drawer to hold tools, glues etc, and maybe a few shelves under that.

If I had the space and if I had the means to design my own table for this work, I would first of all ask for a table that would suspend and be lifted up and down to any height and tilt that I would need.
I would want it on light cables, to be either electronically or sensored to do this, the very same as a garage door, by remote, or by a switch, to determine height and tilt, the same as a drafting table.
and on the bottom edge or close to it, I would want a bar of some kind, to go across the work space, to keep anything from sliding out of position, the same as when you set dishes into a hutch, on the wooden bar, or groove.

I would want a trough on the sides of it, to hold tools and other things that otherwise get in the way..
and to have a light fixture mounted, so it doesn't get in the way of when it's raised to the ceiling storage position.
and it would have a hook of somekind, to attach it, so it won't rock or swivel, while in the down position and not have anything on the corners, like legs, to be tripping around.

it would be plenty enough to deal with the chains, cords or cables, on the corners of the work space on the top side alone, without the hassle of the corners to the floor, too.

well, for now, that's all I can think of..

oh yeah...gotta have it lit up, from the bottom of the table too...gotta be clear and see through.
not plexiglass, or acrylic..don't want scratches.
gotta be a tempered glass...
shatter proof. heck, make it bullet proof!

I love my L shaped counter tops. They are desk height, so I can sit in a comfy chair. There are cabinets under it to hold tons of stuff. the grinder and saw are raised a little higher, so I can stand. Calamity's storage for glass sheets
is what I lust for! and all her space!

What a NEAT and cozy work area Hazie......I'm amazed how non-cluttered it is......something I can't seem to control...don't have the organization skills I need. My dream work-table would be an L-shaped...one area where I could sit down and work and the remainder standing area...a cutting area.....storage and shelves underneath....a place to have my tools and lots of plug ins and lighting...and yes, Calamity's stained glass storage.....that is a DREAM in and of itself!

Thanks Girls! When I built my new craft table, I designed it also on wheels and it is 4ftx6ft so I can have my mosaic project AND all the goodies I'm using to make a big mess!ha! I'm making a mushroom right now outta wire mesh so it's getting it's first workout! My arm is Really gimped right now and I'm not having much success but I am happy with the size of my table!

Oh Hazie...how I wish I could be that organized!!!! What a great work space. DH bought me a 10x10 shed with counter surfaces. I have cluttered it so badly, I have good intentions....you know the rest.

I like an "L" shaped work area - one area for active work and one for letting things set, dry, or just sit. I'd love an area high enough to stand at, but that'll have to wait until my son moves out and I take over his room as my own.

LOTS of light!
I like lights that I can move around - like on swing arms. I have one on each end of my work space and one in the middle that I can swing from side to side. I work in the basement so I have no natural light available.

I also like wall storage. I have things hung up all over above my seated eye level. That way when I put tools/supplies away I can't see them when I'm working and they are out of my way.

I have lots of shelving for bins of glass and an old sweater cubby turned upright to store sheets of glass and larger pieces.

My new year resolution is expand my work area from the family room to the basement where I will have more room. I love the L-shape set up.

I started a page in GWGLASS titled "my studio" so everyone can post photos of their studios there.

We put up a 10x12 barns style shed for my workspace and I have so much stuff in it there is hardly room to work. But, none if it is stuff that I would get rid of..it even has a loft where I store my 40 plus old windows... wish it could have been 20 ft in length.
I love Calalmiy J's room... she can move around in it..

my dream worktable would be bigger than what i have... maybe 4x5 or so. mine current table is high enough for a barstool, which i like.

i'd also have a ton of shelves attached to the back of it for storing jars of glass - and a couple of racks for storing small sheets of glass.... and lots of drawers.

my current worktable is tiny and i manage to keep it fairly neat but it would be nice to spread things out a bit. i'm actually set up in the basement which i used to rent out as an apartment (which was a nightmare!!!) and i use the kitchen counter and sink area. the sink helps a lot!. and i store a lot of stuff in the old (avocado coloured) fridge, too.
