How to hang artwork on mirrored wall??

Hello--

I am buying a waterfront condo that has a long mirrored wall in the living room. I can see why past owners did this--it brings the ocean right in on all three sides of the room. It' a bic sterile for me tho', and I'm wondering if I can hang a large piece of art directly on the mirror. I may be able to hook into the top of the mirror wall but don't really want the haning wires/cords to show.

TIA,

P.

Pamela, have you thought about 3M Command strips? They make them to hold different things and weights of things on smooth walls.

Be very careful with those 3M Command Strips, speaking from the voice of experience. If it is canvas, ok. Glass framed, NOT!

I agree with patricia43- A loud crash at 3 am let me know that the 3M command strip was not strong enough to hold a glass frame.
I replaced it with a very light weight canvas and it has been hanging for 4 months.

Have you thought about hanging it from the ceiling? It would be best to find 2 beams and get a small I-bolt and string some framing wire down and attach to the picture hangers. If you can get the I-bolts close enough to the glass the art should lay flat against the mirror.

OK--good to know about the capacity of the 3m strips (or could I use a bunch of them?) Hanging from the ceiling is a good idea...I just didn't want wires to show.

This isn't wireless....but it would give you lots of options!

Check with local glass/mirror companies or stores to see if they have a contractor who will be willing to drilling into the mirror and add a hanger or two. Of course -- this is a permanent solution ....... so you have to sure where you want them! :)

    LOL!

For something heavy, I'd go the direction mustangs did, but another option for lighter weight things would be those suction cups with hooks.

I wouldn't recommend the suction cups with hooks.....they do fail every once in a while. I have a tiny cast iron basket thingy that only weighs a few ounces that holds several packets of Splenda attached to the tile backsplash in my kitchen with one of those suction cups. About once a month, we'll hear a "kaplunk" in the kitchen as the little basket falls on the counter because the suction cup has lost it's grip.

If it's appropriate for the artwork, you can have two ribbon bands cover the wires, and hang the pictures from the ceiling.

All very good and thoughtful suggestions. I thank each of you.

Mustangs--I think you hit upon it. I'll look into that as my best solution. Just don't want to permanently deface the 15' long mirrored wall, which I never would've installed, but which is too awesome to remove. The mirrors have beveled strips top and bottom, so only the ceiling is available and it's 1/2" additional thickness on the the mirror. You'd really see hooks and cables reflected behind the pictures.

Pamela, The glass shop said the the silicone adhesive could be removed with a sharp thin razor blade.

    Perfect! Thanks again.

Mustang finally came up with the issue I was trying to resolve....A glass mirrored wall in an ocean condo where I want to hang a relatively large painting. Mustangs example looked similar to what I am dealing with. What is the weight of the art?

Command makes hooks to be used in bathrooms so they are meant to be used in a humid environment.
