Where do you all shop for good decorative pillows?

Normally I would say Homegoods & TJMaxx - I have had very good luck at both stores for years BUT I went out yesterday looking for pillows & around here (CT) the selection was very small!

Same here. Nothing for along time there.
Do I need to buy a sewing machine - I could for the price of a couple of some of the pillows I love out there. There has to be an affordable pillow shop.

I have seen cute pillows on Etsy. They can get a bit pricey, but there are some great ideas there.

I've had very good luck at TJMaxx and Ross.

This site has a lot of great pillows, all pretty expensive but even if you just look for the variety and ideas, its a great source

I really like Pier 1's pillows.

    I haven't ried peir1 or Ross. Thanks.

Wow there are some pretty pillows on the sites posted - thanks.

WHY are they all so expensive? I need to get a machine and change professions!

    Thanks

I've found a lot on Ebay and even a few people who would custom make them for me. Alas I bought a whole bunch of blue and white ones and have no place that they work.

Ebay has some great needlepoint and tapestry. I've made many lovely pillows from ebay purchases.
You just need to know how to sew straight lines.
    I love decorative pillows.

I love Fabricadabra (online) for decorative pillows. All different types, organics, natural dyes, from all over the world. Frequent special sales/discounts...purchase the covers and change as often as you want...the are fun and Ive had great service.

Good pillows are usually expensive for a few reasons: first, they have removable covers; they use natural fabrics- cotton, silk, wool, linen; and they are usually well made and will hold up to years of use. Extras like embroidery, needlepoint or tassels also add to the cost.
The interior pillow form is a higher quality too, perhaps down filled and wrapped in foam with a natural, heavy pillow cover, so feathers don't stick out.

Also browse Etsy.com for handmade, not run-of-the-mill pillows.

I bought chair cushions from Ballard that I like a lot. I'm eyeing their cushions which are do-able ($24) versus $49 and up.

I have had very good luck with Kohl's. The pillows I have purchased there have the removable cover and a down insert. In fact, for the price I have paid, I could not even purchase the insert alone for comparable prices. When I tire of the pillows, I will just purchase new covers and keep the inserts. I also have some in my LR that I had custom made at Calico Corners. They also are nice, though I paid something like 5X the amount of my Kohl's pillows. I plan to try my hand at making some myself, but have not yet found the time.

I bought some really pretty pillows at World Market and they were not terribly expensive.

A well made pillow is more than sewing straight lines. If they're high quality, they have a zipper for the insert which can either be down or poly-cotton. It's also the fabric and trim that drives the cost up.
If you're looking at hand-made or custom pillows, they're expensive because you won't find them everywhere. They are not mass produced. They are unique or even one-of-a-kind.

Last year I got 7 new pillows. There was this warehouse where all the junk out of model homes and parade homes gets stored when the house sells. So.....all the stuff was picked by a decorator for a particular look ....in a particular room....but....it was pretty nice stuff!

I'm sure everyone has "model homes staging" sales?

Another vote for Etsy. I purchased some that were constructed very well, and were different than what I could find at traditional stores. Plus, the cost was lower than something of equivalent quality at a normal store.

nicole__, where did you find this model home staging sale? I've seen items sold on CL listed as coming from a home staging, but otherwise I have no idea where to look. Thanks.

I have visited a website www.dreamcushions.artscraftsexports.com there are some very attractive designs.

I've recently purchased some really lovely pillow covers from a missgingham on ebay. She's in Australia, and her work is lovely. Her cushions do not come with inserts however.

I make most of our pillow covers. It's not only economical, but they're unlike anyone elses. Well unless you want to be.
