Oh I love this fixture! I would take it to a lighting shop that not only sells fixtures, but repairs them. It shouldn't be too much have them change it to a ceiling mount hardwired fixture. Either that or see if you can buy a new light kit for it that's hardwired.

I just looked at your link. It said the light sourse is sold separately. Do they have a hard wired kit for it available?

thanks justgotabme. That is great information about having it hardwired. I will also check with Ikea first. They have them hanging all over the store so I assumed I was missing something! I love the fixture too & thought it was a steal at that price. Although as you know that means you assemble the thing yourself.

Ahh.. "assemble"--such an evil word sometimes! Have you done it yet? I have heard that this is a tricky one!

Yes, it is assembled. Tricky to get started but once you figure it out it gets a lot easier!

What justgotta said. You can use the same cord and just hardwire it (kind of like you can take a hardwire cord and add a plug on the end). You could DIY it, but a lighting store will have a better selection of canopies, etc. to give you the look you want and you won't have to get all the little pieces to put it together.

We did this ourselves once, but we were scrapping the original fixture and could re-use the canopy and hardware from the old fixture.

I hope Ikea has the hardwiring for it. I would think that would be the easiest. Never been to an Ikea, (waaaahhh!) but figured there was some assembly required with their great prices. Our daughter moved close to one last spring in northern Cali. Now I have two reasons for wanting to visit there. Katie and Ikea. We don't have a store near enough to even make a day trip of it. (waaahhh again!)
