Mirror UP part II

Decided to start a new post since the other one was getting so long.

Took some more pictures with the lamps raised up and staggered in different postitions. I don't have any old leather books onhand so these are just for an idea.

I downsize the ivy in the bunny. The berries aren't in anymore either. I did try some different flowers but didn't care for any of it. I'm not florist though. I don't want to use real stuff because of my cats.

{{!gwi}}

What about the bunny raised up on something?

{{!gwi}}

I still want to get some type of transferware for some color.

Walls will be painted at some point. Currently working on finding a LR color.

Yes, just as if it were laid down coming in or something : ) It would have more bulk than that, as it was just a head-on photo. Maybe there's a pretty silk embroidered one out there too. Great price on that pillow, too.

Oh, I like this one, but not much info or photos. Great price though.

I'm going to bid on that pillow. It will match in my one spare room perfect!!

I really like the idea of needlepoint/silk embroidery but what do you search for? Everything keeps coming up as pillows. Am I just searching for fabric??

Still think i should get the red toile platter AND an embroidery piece??

    I'm so excited!!

    Squirrel!!!

Oh goody!! A hit : ) I looked back at the burgundy one and wondered if it would fit into your living room where there was some burgundy, but don't know your room very well as to its styling.

I think it would be fun to just switch things out on the buffet from time to time. That way you don't have to stress so much over it either. You'll get a number of things that look nice there and nice together and can just play. You might be able to hand the handbag on the door too.

I think I looked for "vintage needlepoint" and "vintage needlepoint handbag." You could also try "vintage clutch." There are old silk embroidered and beaded bags too : )

I do love the toile there. What's the size of the red and white that Alex posted? That's really pretty too. The deep red is so rich. The platter is more refined and delicate.

rofl, that's too funny! Very cute. Maybe I'll get him and reframe, lol. Looks like a baby squirrel!

Squirrel, are you talking about #2? I think the auction has ended, because I can't find it now.

Sheesharee, check out the bowl in the link! 16 inches, cool shape, and expensive :( I'm not sure what you are looking to spend, but I was looking for low starting bids. This one is too cool, though.

Here is another, sized 15 x 9.5, too short? Also higher than I was thinking you would want to pay. Starts at 37.88 with S&H 18ish

Must have ended a long time ago then, as I looked and looked early afternoon and couldn't find it. I pulled that pretty dish in also. The shape doesn't work standing as it's shaped too much like the mirror.

Squirrel - Are you talking about the pillow possibly for in my LR or the plate? I'm running out of room to sit things. The pillow colors are in my LR. I thought about possibly on the tan wingback chair. My couch and loveseat are patterned but they're across the room from the chair. Guess we'll find out if I win! Nothing like waiting days though.

Handbag on the door... I had thought about putting a tassle thing there but don't know that it's the greatest idea with my furbabies. I could see the one swinging on it like tarzan. He's cute like that.

I tried some different working on ebay and found some more stuff. I'll keep searching.

Alex - I love the rose bowl!!! LOVE it! It is a smidge more than what I wanted to spend but if I love it. Hmm... I like the other one too but it might be too small. Maybe? It doesn't say how deep the bowl is. Will it fit on a plate stand??

The bowl doesn't look that deep, 3 inches maybe? Even if you don't bid, why not email the seller for more specifics.
I have bowls on adjustable stands. I got them at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. Very simple and adjust backwards for deeper items.

Here's the dish. Not sure if the size is right. Three positions: upright, pulled forward and down a bit, and flat.

    {{!gwi}}

Didn't realize they were two different items. I think these shapes compete with the mirror too much for upright display, though. Here is is laying flat, as in the photo:

I don't think I care for them as much laying flat. Although the round bowl might LOOK better laying flat that upright.

Check this one. 12 1/4" diameter. That's the biggest plate like this I've seen.

Here is a link that might be useful: plate

Maybe this is 12", and the oval for comparison.

I don't know which size plate I like but I like the dark red color better.

    Thoughts?

I still think the rectangular looked best.

I like the richer colors, large, an oval better than a round, and a rectangular : ) Is there enough room to move the bunny more center and overlap part of the plate?

This scalloped type edge was on ebay, forget the price. I like it though it competes in shape a bit. The larger rectangular-oval is nice but cracked and is $200!

    {{!gwi}}

Squirrel - Yep can move the bunny over. He is now acutally but don't know that I've posted a pic since.

Like the scallop edge but I think they're on crack for wanting $200.. geez!

Like the second pic you posted. Do you have a link to that or is it one of the above. Ha starting to get all the plates confused.

    Thanks for PS all those!

It's the second one that's cracked and up to $266 : ) It is pretty.

Can't seem to find that one. Here's the scallop:

Here is a link that might be useful: Scalloped

OOPS - misread. Yeeah, I'm liking the scalloped one! 13" high is pretty good. The blue oval one I have now I think is like 8".

A 10" square has come up, though I don't think it's vintage. Very pretty though. 5" deep.

Enough already with the bunny. I'm kidding, but maybe you should take a break from this whole mirror bunny thing, just a thought.

Squirrel - Very pretty! Thanks! I guess I need to start looking at plate stands to see if I can make a bowl work.

Newdawn - Today was the first I posted since Monday on this.. I was taking my break. :)
I know what I'm looking for now it's just waiting for the right one to pop up.

Was having a bad night last night, please except my apologogy Sheesharee. Maybe I'm the one that needs to take a break. Sorry sweetie.

    ....Jane

Newdawn - No worries, it's all good.

    So much for the break...

I know I was going for red toile but while searching ebay again I stumbled across this plate and really like it. Whatcha think?
    {{!gwi}}
    15 1/4" x 2" x 15 1/4" high.
I will say the description says "gold scalloped rim" to me it looks pewter in the pic.
    Comes with the stand
said it's being discontinued. is only #11.00 with $8.00 shipping.

    ends in 6 hours

Would go something like this, hopefully is 15":

    {{!gwi}}

Ding, ding, ding, I think we have a winner.

I hope you got that last one. It's gorgeous. You've got that pretty needlepoint chair in that same area, correct?

the plate is beautiful and the size is perfect. Now, I would add something with a touch of color that compliments everything.

Well.. I DID buy it. I was going back and forth, then in the last minutes I put in a bid. I hope it's what I'm expecting.

I measured then AFTER I won (duh) and it's either going to look huge or it's going to be perfect.

Pbrisjar - Yep, the chair's in the corner!

I know I was pretty dead set with the red toile but this just happened to pop up. That happens a lot *cringe*. I hope nobody is annoyed by it! It's still a plate. . .

Estimated arrival date is the 26th. Seller is across the country. I'll post pics when I get it!

Thank you so much Squirrel for all the PS!
Thanks again everyone for all your help!

Yay! I think that platter will echo the chair wonderfully. Can't wait to see it in place.

    Looking forward to seeing it!

Well my plate arrived today. It arrived in about 8 big pieces and a bunch of smaller ones. UPS. I've always had problems with UPS.

At any rate, pretty plate but I think it's too big anyhow. Double bummer for the night. I emailed the seller. I'm sure she'll send me a new one but I'm probably going to get stuck sending her the old one back. I have problem paying for shipping for something that wouldn't have broke in the first place had it of been packaged right.

There were packing peanuts (hate those da*& things) then there was a the manufacturer box with the plate loosely sitting inside the bubble wrap with THIN styrofoam above and below. It should've been wrapped up with THICK bubble wrap and packed tight so there was no room for moving. HELLO?!

Alright I'm done complaining now. I know things happen and we're only human but I feel as though this could've easily been avoided.

My beautiful plate! No glue's fixin this baby. blah

Oh man that really sux! Looks like it was really pretty, too.

Oh Sheeshare, that is a bummer! You were waiting so patiently, and so were we! Hopefully the new plate will arrive safely...in one piece!

Oh Sheesh. That is a bummer.

The plate certainly looks different than the ad, doesn't it. You should be able to just send a picture of the broken plate and box as proof. That's customary and there's really no need to waste money on shipping again. Items like that really should be double-boxed so they can even be crushed or stomped on a bit (it's happened!).

Hopefully they'll have another or you'll be able to find something else soon.

Drat! That is a shame. I'd try to work this out with her. A good seller will not want a negative feedback regarding the poor shipping; however keep in mind they can do retatilatory negative feedback. BTDT--only in my case it was a broken chair. Got no where with Paypal, but I did finally get a refund through my credit card company--so there is that option for you. Hope there is an easier resolution for you.

I'm back now and much calmer than earlier. :)

I was just so excited because I knew it was coming today and I was expecting an oil painting to arrive from ebay as well. The painting didn't show and we know how the plate ended up...

The seller was very apologetic. Even though I was nice to her in my email I feel crappy for complaining on this end. She's going to send another one out. Told me to keep the boxes though incase I'd have to resend it? She would know more tomorrow. UPS would give me a free shipping label if it needed to go back. Don't get that but whatever.

Yeeah the plate looks different in person. I was thinking more pewter but it's very gold. Anyone else an impulse ebay shopper!? I'm horrible. I see something that's cheap and it says,"on sale from such and such a price...only one left.." I can't watch infomercials anymore. Bun and thigh roller, need I say more? (That piece of crap went in the garbage.)

I seriously think it's going to be too big. Not sure what the heck I'm going to do with it. I'd honestly rather just get a refund but that wasn't an option listed in her description.

I just know I'll end up buying a red toile plate at some point.

haha and I think DH starting to wonder about me as I keep buying all kinds of seasonal things. Did anyone else know they have blue pumpkins? I bought some blue and white over the weekend. The past couple of days I've been searching the net for Christmas ornaments etc. :) OH WELL!

Thanks for listening to me ramble tonight. I think I need to head to bed! Night Ladies!

sheeshare, if that came UPS, it came with $100 insurance, but they will come out & inspect the packaging. UPS requires that glass items be double boxed though.

UPS isn't good for small, fragile items, IMO.

As far as feedback, sellers can no longer leave neutral or negative feedback, and they can't say anything overtly negative in their positive feedback. So feel free to leave any honest feedback you want.

I hope the seller packs the next one better, and if not, you can file a SNAD and get your money back.

I got distracted. I was scrolling to the bottom of this thread to say I like the rabbit planter and I also like the 2 plates with light blue design with it.

Love the buffet, mirror is lovely, lamps and large platter on stand. Don't love the bunny so much. I think it detracts from the overall look. I don't know if it is the size, texture? The rest of your beautiful ensemble is distracted by the bunny for me. If you love the bunny, then by all means, he should stay in place.

I would rather see a smaller-size pretty metal bowl. I guess antique brass or something like that where you could land your keys when coming in the door.

Any event, your buffet is lovely. Such a shame about the broken plate, it was a pretty piece. I've never purchased anything on ebay, does this happen often?

I actually sent the seller an email last night and mentioned about just giving me money back. Was hoping it would save her money and had I of bought this in the store I'd be returning it. She replied this morning saying the warehouse doesn't allow that, even for her. Oh well. I'll put it somewhere even if that means relist on ebay. As far as returning the box, I honestly don't feel as thought I should have to do anything other than send her pics. I live out in the country and it's an inconvenience for me to have to drop the package off at UPS. I don't know how returns normally work but I'm hoping they show up at my door. It's not my problem/fault it broke.

work in progress - I've never had anything arrive damaged from ebay and I've been buying for a couple of years now. Usually sellers package things well. I am glad they changed the feedback thing that sellers can only leave positive. I did have an incident where it took almost two months for a purse to arrive. I could've drove and picked it up faster.(in the same state) He wasn't responsive. I debated what type of feedback to leave for fear of him ruining my perfect rating. Gave him a big fat negative because it's truly what he deserved. Plus lots of other people were having probs and doing the same. He never bothered to leave me fb or any of the others from what I could see.
I don't sell that often but when I do I'm sure it takes the buyer forever to get to the item because of all the layers of bubble wrap, etc. When buying I always look at the detailed description of their feedback. I only buy from sellers with a good record. This lady has 100% rating from hundreds of items so I'm not real worried. So far she's been very nice and apologetic about the whole thing.

UPS will come to your door and she can arrange to have a prepaid sticker given to you by the UPS guy so you can just slap it on the box and give it to him.

SheeSharee, I would also mention that the item doesn't really look like the photo they advertised. It looks completely different to me in a number of ways. Since it broke as well, I feel they should just refund.

I hope they don't go to the expense of having the item returned. Photos are usually all that's required. This is the type of thing that also raises our prices.

I'm glad she's not giving you a hard time or trying to blame you : )

S'sharee(a little injected humor here), just how long have you had this 'platter problem'? Do you think it started in childhood? Do you have nightmares about it?

I'm sorry about the broken platter, but from all the previous pix, you seem to have several to choose from~*I* still think you should leave the bunny! IMO, it's your gorgeous mirror that should be the focus.

I'll chime in here. I'm always looking for foyer ideas.

I would put something lower in the bunny. Someone suggested cascading ivy. I think the plant there now is too high for it. A lower plant wouldn't make the platter look so small, plus the bunny would show off more.

But then, I'm constantly changing my foyer display.

That is very interesting about not allowing sellers to leave negative feedback--but too late for me. The seller I bought from trashed my reputation down to a 90% based on that single neg. feedback, whereas he was a power seller and my neg. feedback (for the broken chair--which was shoddily glued together and shipped) barely made a dent in his reputation and soon scrolled off the list. I ended up having to close out my account and start fresh--so as of now I have zero history with eBay. Makes me feel more confident to return to buying on eBay should anything strike my fancy. Unfortunately, I've found eBay to favor sellers in most things so I do think you are going to have to end up shipping that plate back. At least you are not having to pay for shipping, though. I notice some seller state upfront they are not responsible for shipping damage and expect you to just get insurance and make a claim.

I'm sorry that happened to you valinsv. With ebay's new rules, that 90% would have changed back to 100% after 12 months but your total number would stay the same. I set up a separate buying account from my selling account just because of retaliatory sellers, but luckily never got one. Like you, the one seller I neg'd never gave feedback.
