Mirror sources

Our downstairs bathroom (industrial loft) will be my daughter's bathroom as well as the guest bathroom. I've decided to use a great mirror as a design focus (instead of a traditional bathroom mirror, or the lovely but simple framed mirrors we had in our last house). Problem is I have no idea where to even begin to look. Any ideas?

Local framing shop! Our MBA and powder rooms came from my favorite frame shop. Just had two made for DD2's MBA:

I had been thinking of writing a similar post, so I'll be looking to see what others suggest. We're having our tiny, windowless powder room painted soon, which of course means a new mirror. Now we have a brushed chrome, very angular/modern mirror, and I want something more traditional, vintagey even. I'd do new lighting too if I thought DH wouldn't kill me. I have been looking in all the usual places for an oval mirror around 20" w x 30" h and just can't find anything I love. I'd love to find an antique wood-framed mirror, or a new mirror framed in a charcoal gray stained or painted wood. At least that's what's in my mind.

Anyway, so as not to seem like I'm hijacking, I'll list the places I've hunted so far:

    Pottery Barn
    RH
    West Elm
    Crate and Barrel
    Wisteria
    Overstock
    Ballard
    Home Decorators
There's a site that's called Unusual Mirrors? or Unique Mirrors?
    Schoolhouse Electric
    Rejuvenation
    Bellacor
    Lamps Plus

    Also...

    Horchow
PB Kids/Teen (seriously. check out the mirror below, I'm considering it for my bath.)
    Land Of Nod

You'd be surprised at what you can find in the "kids' department" of decor.

    sjhockeyfan & sueb20,

Lucky timing. Resembl just added mirrors to its visual search engine two weeks ago! You can see the blog announcement here:

    http://blog.resembl.com

It appears that they curated about 2000 of them. There is a wide variety of non cookie-cutter mirrors in the Resembl collection. I think my favorites are from Horchow and PB honestly, but there are several other merchants in their collection that you can check out--including many of those that sueb20 mentioned above.

Also, I totally second the PB Teen recommendation from sueb20--they are fantastic!

Since I've been mirror shopping a lot, I would add:
    a. Wayfair and Hayneedle; they will duplicate a lot of the stuff at overstock, bellacor, lampsplus, however. I've ordered mirrors twice online. Once it came successfully, the second, I had arrive broken, twice. These are usually shipped direct from the manufacturers and some just don't seem to be packaged correctly.
    b. The big "daily special" places like J&M and OKL also always have stuff, including vintage.
    c. Your local antique and consignment shops, CL and tag sales. 1stdibs also has bunch of vintage stuff.
    d. I would also second the recommendation on the local frame shop. I've also DIY'd mirrors using a miter saw, mdf and trim from the local molding shop.
    e. zgallerie.com (a bit on the glam side)

sueb20, if you're looking for vintagey look in antique stores or CL for one and paint. That's what I did for our main level guest bedroom bath. It is/was a mahogany shield mirror with pretty details. I painted with wall paint then went over with glaze (left over from kitchen cabinets). This picture shows the frame with the mirror removed, just after I finished redoing.

Have a local glass shop cut a mirror to your specs with beveled edges if you like. Then go to Michael's, Hobby Lobby or a frame shop to have it framed in the molding of your choice. Be sure to bring a coupon or wait for a sale.

Other places to look are Kirkland's, Pier 1 or Craigslist.
