Casters on sofas: like 'em or hate 'em?

I'm about to place an order for a sofa (as soon as the sale kicks in which I think will be next week). I know what I want to do for the various options, other than the feet. I can have casters on the front legs or just regular legs with a metal detail. I'm wondering if you think casters give furniture a more traditional feel or a more casual feel or none of the above. Any thoughts on them either way?

Our living room doesn't allow a lot of flexibility in the layout so it's unlikely the sofa will be moved often. The front legs will be on an area rug so there's no worry of the casters damaging the floors. We do have long-haired dogs so I suppose there's a good chance a fair amount of hair could get tangled in casters, but pulling dog hair out of odd places is something I have no qualms about.

I'm just wondering about general thoughts about sofas, but if it matter, we're getting an English arm, tightback sofa. Here are the leg options:

The casters are more traditional that than particular ferrule but they look a bit delicate on that leg. They usually don't move since the back legs are fixed.

I think the no casters leg looks better.

Do the wheels lock?
Nothing I hate worse than to see a sofa scoot when someone gets up.

I love the look of the casters but I don't think that it will be nearly as sturdy as w/o. DH gets a fair amt. of leg/ caster repair work where they've been used on heavy use furniture. It a a natural week spot where they are joined.

Hate is a strong word, but I definitely think a sofa would look much better without casters as pictured above.

I have only one piece of furniture with casters on the legs ~ a wood swivel-type desk chair. For that purpose, the casters do make sense since the chair is moved in and out often. Other than a piece being moved in the way an office hair is moved, it really doesn't seem to be of great benefit to have them. IMO, the casters don't add anything aesthetically, actually the opposite.

Where did you end up finding the short ferrules. I've had casters on my couch and gone through two sets in a matter of a few yeas. We are tiny people so it's not a weight factor, but disappointed in the caster construction. Last time I went through the box store, but would just like to order the ferrules online, but cannot seem to find a website to direct order.

This comment is for celine712 you can find beautiful casters on the Antique Hardware website. They're brass not the unattractive ones that are offered at dig stores. Casters on sofas have Avery English look.
