Is this too much gray?

Help! I'm repainting all my rooms, and now I'm doubting my choices. I already have Milk Pail in the kitchen (which I love), Wythe Blue in adjoining bathroom (a slightly lighter shade), and I've painted the stairs, which are next to the kitchen, Rockport Gray (love). I was all set to paint the walls in the stairway and upstairs hall Revere Pewter but now I'm thinking that's too much gray. On the other side of the stairway is my dining room, which I'm planning on painting Saybrook Sage.

For the upstairs bedroom I'm planning a light blue-gray and a gray for the east-facing master. The floors will be Rockport Gray. Too much gray? Except for the Martha Stewart kitchen, I use all Benjamin Moore historic colors.

Here is a link that might be useful: gray stairs

I am not an expert. Actually, I signed up because I needed help with paint colors and was making myself crazy. I am painting my whole house the same strip--just going up and down on the color strip in different areas. I really like it. But I don't want the wall color to be the star. I just want it to be the backdrop.

After I made my decision I found out from Sherwin Williams color consultant that someone had painted their whole house one of my colors---the whole thing besides the kids bedrooms. And it looks awesome and different in most areas.

Then I told my friend what colors I chose and she told me that her son used the lightest 4 colors on the color strip that I was using. And she thinks it looks great.

My point is NO it isn't too gray. I think you clearly are drawn to gray. I would be shocked if you didn't give every area its own personality with your furniture and decor. I honestly have given this a lot of thought and I am happy with my decision. IMO, go for it. But my opinion isn't worth much because I don't know a thing about decorating!!

No, your opinion is helpful. You're right--the furniture and accessories will be more important with a neutral like gray. What colors did you choose?

i too painted my whole house in different shades of gray and it's jus so much fun to play with accent colors and furniture... i put color in my kid's rooms but that's it. i LOVE it! I was worried like you, but it just makes everything stand out very nicely... oh and i did a black powder room :) i used more of a warm gray in my family room to warm it up a bit, and i even find it's not gray enough! lolol Go for it! good luck :)

Not at all! I think that it all sounds wonderful!

I think the colors you picked out are beautiful! Your steps look great. I used Tony taupe, balanced beige, and accessible beige. So far they look great. I can't wait to add my decor, like Valerie, I think it will stand out. A black bathroom sound so chic!

I have stained trim and doors so I had to choose my gray carefully. Many grays looked green and a few looked purple. In some areas my chosen colors look like silver dust, taupe, or gray. I am very happy so far.
