Over the top hardware.

Lefroy Brooks "Mackintosh"- riff on 1930s builder's hardware:

P E Guerin Bird Basin Set

P E Guerin Nugget Basin Set and Hardware.

It doesn't come with two different handles, those are the options.

Weird, lumpy...I like it for some reason.

I like the first one--it does remind me of the hardware from our 1930's Philadelphia house...only more slender and shiny.

The birds....pretty, and I can picture a bathroom where they'd be perfect, but overall I'm birded out already. (And I say that as a person who loves birds IRL and in art).

The Flintstones set, not for me. Reminds me of that episode of Star Trek where a silicon-based blob-shaped lifeform was terrorizing the crew. It was one angry rock.

I love that Guerin hardware! It reminds me a little of hardware I saw in a house once. This house was part of an estate sale and had once been fairly grand. When I saw it, it had been going through hard times for many, many years. One would have had to have been blind to not notice the neglect, deterioration, dirt, rot....The kitchen had a floor-to-ceiling Dutch fireplace, or maybe it was an oven, with antique Delft tiles. There was a double sink that I now realize might have been German silver, and the faucet was a brass (unlacquered!) swan, with its neck and head the spout, and the wings the hot and cold taps. I didn't care about the house, but how I coveted that faucet!

    Love that bird set!

    How about the Jaguar?

I wasnt expecting the Lefroy based on title. You mean over the top price, apparently...

Price, I am pretty sure, yes, but

The Lefroy is kind of spectacular in its understatement. It comes off as utilitarian and anti-fashion, but it is a lot more than that.

    Pal,

That is a very unique example of over-the-top then. : )
It is my favorite kind of over the top. Deceptively "simple" to the untrained eye. But to people who really care, it has details and nuances that draw you in and that you usually will fail to find in runner up choices.

I'll take charming birds over snarling jaguars but it is unusual. I do love almost anything with a bird on it- that faucet reminds me of the silver salt and pepper shakers my grandmother had- and every other bridge club lady had too.

I hate that birds are trendy right now.

I wish I could find that dragon faucet somebody posted in one of my threads. I was so tempted.

Now that none of us Americans can take out a home equity line to "improve" our homes, the designers are targeting the really fat pocketbooks. Lookout for pricing in renminbi and lots of dragons ...

The Jaguars are from THG's "So you just signed an NBA contract" product line.

Well, they do make a Foo set:

    and a Mask spout:

OMG, I know that spout --- it's from the Doge's Palace

    Think I found it.

    Wow :)

I like the Lefroy Brooks and wouldn't give the others a second look.

Looooooove the Lefroy Brooks! So simple but modern.

I just like looking. PE Guerin, especially things like the Foo set and the Mask with the split finish are made-to-order and really expensive, I assume.

If I had lots of bathrooms I might do a single faucet that was over the top, although I think very few houses could support the entire suite of pieces even if the budget could.

While I really like the Lefroy Brooks a lot,I would just be tempted to use the utilitarian hardware it is based on.

    mtnrdredux, that handle is gorgeous.

Thank you, it's for my front doors.

The raised edge is really unusual, and is it silver? Who is the manufacturer?

My DD would faint with joy if we got her the water-breathing dragon :)

Surprisingly, I don't like the Lefroy Brooks, even though my favorite fittings fall into exactly that style--refined retro. I've seen Waterworks and even Newport Brass examples that seemed to nail it better. Maybe it's the handles--the details don't seem to go with the hex spout.

The hex spout is pretty common around here, but my sister's of this era were round, both with the cross handles. I saw a Gothic set with the hex faucet that was awesome, because the handles were hex-like too.

    Palimpsest,
They are from Baldwin, I am pretty sure. They are silver. I am so looking forward to them tarnishing.
