Purchasing area rugs

I see so many websites selling area rugs- which are reputable, without hassles? Also, have you ever had to return some and what did the costs become? Afraid to order and end up with a dislike or problem .

Overstock, huge selection, great prices free shipping. If you don't like it, you pack it up, drop it at UPS, send it back and they refund fully minus the cost of the return shipping (which is reasonable, not hugely inflated).

And oh yeah, you can handle all that through online chat, don't even have to pick up the phone and the hours are extensive, I think did a return at like 11 PM or something.

Following this post. I want a patterned area rug for my bedroom, and I'm not sure of the best place to buy one. I also see pretty ones online but I'm not sure of the quality.

We bought three rugs/pads from Rugstudio.com this past summer and we had a great experience ordering from them! We live fairly close to one of their showrooms, so the manager and his assistant personally delivered and set up the large area rugs that we ordered. They have many brands/styles of rugs. We bought three Karastan brand rugs and are happy with the quality. This was our first experience ordering area rugs, so I don't know how other brands compare, but we love ours!

We needed an odd size area rug for our media room, so we just had a local flooring store bind some shag carpet into a rug. They only offered a synthetic rug pad though, so I called Rugstudio and bought an all-natural rubber pad that won't harm the wood floor. We needed a big rug pad, and they shipped it for $20. I think that I received it the day after we ordered it!

I have also ordered from Overstock and Rug Studio, and Home Decorators. I ordered two large Nourison rugs from Decora rugs a few years back, but they seem to be out of business now.

The biggest issue is when colors turn out to be totally different IRL than in the pic online. I usually recommend that people order the smallest size first, like a 2' x 4', to check the colors and then it's easier to return (or, often you can find a spot for a rug that size, like by the back door or the kitchen sink!).

I have seen some real pretty ones at Home goods and Tuesday morning that are all wool. I bought one from Home depot and it is really cheap - pulls and stains. Not a do-over.

I have also recently purchased from RugStudio....no problems. Yes, it is a hassle and expense to ship back...but I just couldn't find what I liked locally and shopping online is so much easier because you can see countless rugs and compare.

i almost always have bought from stores, becasue i really like to see something in place before i decide and have returned several rugs to stores after bringing them home and seeing them in the room.
the one exception was the wool rugs i bought for our master bath from ballard--- but they were able to send me samples (~3x5") of several rugs i was interested in so i could see the colors and pattern and quality in my home... i got multiple samples of the same rug if all colors weren't in the single sample.
i don't think i would order online without at least seeing a sample because it would bother me to have to pay return shipping fees!

I am looking for several area rugs. I found rug studio and they have a huge selection but most of the rugs I want to sample are sold out. It irritates me that they have rugs on their website with the sale price listed and a sold out notice. I am so frustrated with them that I think I have to find another site to purchase from.

I have purchased Royal Palace rugs from QVC. They are 6 years old and still look great. I had a 6 ft or 8 ft round rug in my kitchen and when I sold my house the new owners asked to have it, they loved it. Of course I left it there for them.

I have purchase five area rugs from Overstock and been completely happy with every one of them. Make sure to check the reviews to see what others thought about the real life color matching the photo. I've noticed that the same rug in different sizes have slightly different color in the photos. In watching this I've never had a problem matching color.
The free shipping is only if you belong to the O-Club, but it can be worth joining with a larger purchase as a rug. At $2.95 regular shipping it's almost free without their club.
