Trash or treasure??

Here is the dumpster dive coffee table, picked during Running Club last Saturday. It's darling, looks like the top is leather, maybe?? Just missing 1 caster.
I thought Annie Sloan paint? Chalk paint? Simple Murphy's Oil Soap?? The sky is the limit..... meanwhile, a friend suggested Old English Dark Scratch Cover and it worked like a charm. (Trailrunner-- perfect for your new/old chairs!)
Pretend I've found the new casters & the table is taller. :)

(sorry about the dark cell phone pic, my camera is broken)

With the leather top, don't paint it. Leave it wood. Great find.

Perfect size and scale with your windows.

    Lucky!

And I also am a fan of old english scratch cover. We got a (new to us) kitchen table and chairs last weekend from the antique mall, and they look 1000% better after the scratch cover.

    Leave it be.

Wonderful, keep it as is. Yes to scratch cover.

What a great find! I love it just as it is.

Great find. I also vote no on painting it.

Treasure! I'd leave it as is and simply add the casters to make it taller. What a find!

Thanks so much girls, for looking and weighing in ---
I tried for an hour this AM to upload the before pic, it finally took! Here it is before the Old English Scratch Cover- I'm telling you, that stuff is amazing! :)

I love it just as it is! I would add casters to it though.

Beautiful. I think you found the coffee table to my end table.

    Here is a pic.

WoW!! What a great find . And thank you for the vote about Old English . I have a bottle of it LOL ! But I think I have too dark a color for the newest old chair. I have sanded the arms down and they are a coffee with lots of cream color that I LOVE. Don't want to put it on there and have them darker. I shall use it on the rest though. THANK YOU !! DO NOT PAINT :) c

It's beautiful! I would leave it alone too. I love the oval shape, it's so graceful.

    Holly, yours is lovely too!

    Gorgeous!!!

Yes --graceful lines and very elegant -- suits the whole room! :)

And yes -- I would simply add casters (check on Amazon -- it is amazing what turns up there!) and enjoy it! :)

Great find. Like it as is!

That was in the trash?!!! Lucky you! I would leave it and just polish and add a caster. Does it look like they cut the legs down or was it always that height?

By castors I hope you mean vintage wood ones to keep the effect right...really REALLY nice find!

I would add casters to make it taller.

This is a perfect example of something perfectly nice that is not currently on trend.

When your item was new, it would have been sold in a store that had a mess of old shipping crates and such out back.

Today, an old paint splattered shipping palette on casters would never go in the trash; it would be considered chic and sell in a boutique! Meanwhile your piece goes begging.

Thanks so much-- I will try to find the perfect casters.
I wonder if years ago sofa's were shorter, maybe? Is that why the table is so low???
Holly-Kay (with the gorgeous kitchen....) I can't believe you have the matching end table! How funny is that??

I have similar pieces with the 'leather' tops. Did you put the OE Scratch on the leather, as well? Mine looks so dried out.

Yes, I did put the OE on the leather. I was nervous but figured I had nothing to lose. I buffed it up really well after and it revived the leather part quite nicely. :)

Did you know that Old English Scratch remover comes in two different stains....One for light wood and one for dark wood. I have used both and they are great!

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

Try this website for replacement casters. I know nothing about them, but they seem to have an extensive inventory.

Forgot to add: Congrats on finding such a classic piece!

Ogoopogo -- I love it! It's so pretty with your rug, too! It's hard to tell, but is it shorter also??

Bbstx -- thanks for the fun link! I just might find something good there!

Great story, Ogoopogo....Hollywood, fun story. I'm impressed :)

    That's a great find.
    Good for you!
