It's lovely....does it need to be a lamp at all? Or can you cut off the lamp parts and stick with the sculpture?

That lampshade looks too large. If I were to use it as a lamp, I would think something simple, black with a sheen. Best way is to take it to a lampshade store and try them on the lamp itself.

Thanks Annie, it would look nice as sculpture but at this point I need almost everything except the big pieces of furniture again, and I even need some of those. I think I kept one lamp for the living area and 2 from the bedroom when we packed everything into storage almost 4 years ago.

Big drum shades like that remind me very much of lamps when I was a kid, that MCM look. I know lots of people are embracing the look. I think it's a bit like fashion, if you wore it the first time around it's a trend you shouldn't embrace.

I like the idea of black, but what shape? I don't want to buy the lamp if I can't envision it looking good.
I don't have the table it should go on yet, so that's not in play yet. No end tables, occasional tables, sofa tables....

I didn't embrace the drum shade when it started coming back. Reminded me too much of 50's & 60's too. But with this lamp, I like it best.

Marj, I never liked drum shades. When I was a little girl I hated them too. I just thought they were graceless. However the black drum shade that Marti posted looks really good with it.

Yes to the black drum shade and try the inside with a silver coating. As mentioned, take it with you to try shades. It is difficult to see where the neck of lamp is, seems to be cut off with the huge shade. Nice lamp.
