I am going to beat Buehl to the punch (hee hee), and link a thread about her lovely glass pantry door. She gives the source info the door about 1/4 of the way down the thread. She also references Sharb's wonderful pantry. Sharb's pantry has a chandelier in it (but of course).

sandesurf - If you find someplace, let me know. I'm looking for the same kind of thing, a solid door except for a small "window" at the top. But instead of glass, I want a metal or wood grill or grate in the "window" for ventilation. I plan to use my pantry for cooling baked goods out of my kitties' reach......

I found half glass by googling "half glass interior wood door". www.alibaba.com has a wide selection of different sized windows in wood doors.

Well, I have found some custom door shops online after doing more research, but am concerned about the custom price tag! Sandesurf, let me know if you want any links to places that may be able to do what you want custom.

We may end up doing ours as a DIY project by buying a single panel door and adding a ventilation panel. I have found the raw materials to make the ventilation panel in both wood and metal, we would just need to cut a hole in the door and put a little frame around it. DH is pretty good at that kind of thing....

I have a very handy extra storage rack on the back of my pantry door, and don't want to loose it.

You might also want to google screen doors. They have some beautiful ones.

I saw a picture today on the Granite Gurus blog site and thought of this thread. They did a post on the Utah Valley Parad of Homes that they did the work on and posted on home #10. One of the pictures had a pantry door in the background with a small window with something etched in it. I bet the blog owner, Stephanie, could find out where they got it since they fabricated the granite on that project.

I've learned a new word this week, when looking at window doors, "Transom". I believe that window above the door in the picture is a transom window. Looks like a full sized door, with a window over it. I still don't understand why it's so hard to find, as they make front, exterior doors like I want. Truthfully, I haven't looked all that hard...yet.

The kitchen we're remodeling is actually in our vacation/retirement home, 5 hours from us, in Lake Havasu City, AZ. We don't have tons of money to throw at it, but I'm loving the outcome. The kitchen we live in everyday hasn't been remodeled in 25 years! Are we doing the right thing? Maybe not, but we sure are enjoying the heck out of it! :)
We get out there at least two weekends a month, and since I work for our school district, I get go there a lot more, in the summer! 6 more work days until I'm free to go!!!
Here's some pictures to give you an idea...There is a lake view out of those kitchen windows! LOVE it out there!

We painted the cabinets, put in new flooring, but held off on the countertops as those cabinets had to go!

Here's a beautiful sunset, from the kitchen windows. The lake is about 4 miles away, but you can see it. :)

Oh yeah, and here's a picture of the fridge wall. Notice the white pantry door, to the left? That's what I want to replace. Oh, and as you can see, I'm trying to go with a southwest theme. Corny/tacky? I don't care, I love it! :)

Minority opinion: I prefer non-labeled pantries. If something is "cute" you might want to think about it a little longer, esp with SW decor theme.

For what it's worth, our pantry-utility closet has a louvered door. Works for us -- it allows built-up smells and heat to exit and visually marks the room as a work room. (Look for an old thread about smelly pantry units.) There are doors out there with louvers on half of the door should that interest you.

I didn't wanna say it. I agree with Florantha. But now you and Celine have me thinking about glass on my pantry door! Hers has several glass panels.

floranta and breezy - I can't speak for sandesurf, but I am not wanting cute, just functional with the ventilation. I've thought of louvers, but they say "Florida" or other warm places to me. They don't fit in my house/kitchen and they're not my personal style either. So, I'm wanting a wood or metal grate/grill at the top of the door. I expect it to look more functional than cute. :)

Sand--I just noticed that amazing sunset. Quite a view you've got there!

Katkat--what about a 5 or 6 panel door with the top wood panel replaced with mesh? It's DIY for sure but could look great and provide the ventilation you need.

Thank you ladies, for the opinions. I love this Web site! I guess because I've seen the "cute" pantry doors in most of the model homes around there, that I thought it went with the theme. All of those doors were ALL glass though.
Before the cabinets went in, a girlfriend said that my door would look out of place, because it's white, and my cabinets are dark. The ceiling is white, along with the rest of the house doors, ceilings and baseboard (except in the kitchen). Now that the cabinets are in, I don't think the door looks too bad. What do you think?

I think the white door looks perfectly fine. I wouldn't make it stained wood just because your cabs are. I think it would stick out like a sore thumb that way. As it is, it blends nicely with the wall and lets the rest of your kitchen take the focus. Good choice!

As far as a "Pantry" door goes, I just think they're dated and something that people in my area are ripping out. If you love it, you should do it. It's your kitchen after all.

I'm really not in love with the "pantry" door thing. Just thought it looked "cute" in the model homes I'd seen. When my girlfriend remarked on the white door looking funny with the dark cabinets, she also mentioned the "pantry doors". Oh well... I know where to come for opinions now! GW! :)
