Posting my samples

These are carved in stone, so I'm not asking for advice--just posting for fun and comment (of course, if you hate them, please be gentle!).

{{!gwi}}

Here are the particulars:

Cabinets: DeWils Horizon Line / Door Style: Triton Cherry / Stain: Autumn Cherry

Floor Tile / Backsplash Tile: Ceramiche Provenza "Cotti dÂEremo" (Color: Calore)

Countertop Granite Slab: Dakota Mahogany

Island Marble Slab: Honed Rojo Alicante

Hardware: Amerock "Forgings" in Rustic Bronze (Pyramid Pull #BP4428-RBZ) (not in photo: Pyramid Knob #BP4429-RBZ)

Paint Color for Walls: Benjamin Moore #HC-54 Jumel Peachtone

Paint Color for Roof Beams and Headers: Benjamin Moore #2095-10 Adirondack Brown (the little brown square hanging over the backsplash tile)

Switches/Receptacles: Lutron "Sienna" (the little brown rectangle poking up from the granite sample)

Most of our decorative accents will be taken from our collection of copper metalwork, like the tray hanging over the wall paint sample, which is one of the reasons we chose copper-toned hardware, as well as the wall plates for the switches and receptacles that will be in the backsplash tile and on the cabinets (haven't received the wall plate sample yet).

So, we seem to have ended up with a fairly monochromatic color scheme on the red-orange-brown end of the spectrum. I'll try to bring in complimentary color in other ways--green plants, for one.

I've learned so much from posters on this forum, and I'll respect anything you have to say about our choices. But again, we're not going to change anything at this stage (not even the paint color, DH's choice after looking at chips for two hours), so . . . gentle? Thanks!

    It's going to be beautiful!

Cate1337, I didn't expect a response just minutes after posting. Thanks so much!

Oops - sorry Maydl, I should have waited to keep it up at the top. :( Obviously, I need to get myself off to bed!

It does look warm and inviting. When do you start?

Ok it's crap...heh heh KIDDING! My goodness what a lovely beginning to your kitchen! I love the warmth of the colors and the mixture of the textures, particularly the marble!

I have only one little suggestion, and it's not that important, but I'll throw it out there. You have obviously thought out your textures well. (Which is as important as color IMO) but I personally can see venetian plaster instead of paint in your mix. A nice smooth application, with minimal lines, finished with a paste wax would add even more warmth, and those copper pieces would really pop on that type of texture.

That said, I really do love the mix you've got there to show us :) I'm all about autumn colors :)

Maydl, do you know what deWils stain number that is? We're using deWils Horizons also and we don't have stain names, just numbers.

good luck! I just found out Friday that I'm postponed from July/Aug to Sept/oct and I'm chomping at the bit already, so I'll just have to live vicariously through you.

looks gorgeous! I really like that door style, too. Everythink works so well together. It looks like it will be a very warm and inviting kitchen.

Thanks for your kind words, everyone. (Of course, I pretty much ruled out unkind words, didn't I?)

Igloochic, I hate to admit it, but I had to go to Wikipedia to look up Venetian plaster! I appreciate your suggestion, but we have to match some existing walls (this job is a 95% gut, not total) that have a different texture. So "pop" will have to come from other directions, like maybe finally polishing the copper pieces! BTW, I've been following the thread about your son--sending good wishes your way. You always have time for the rest of us, and I join those who so appreciate that.

Nomorebluekitchen--The number on my can of DeWils stain in my touch-up kit is #117, and the shipping label says "Autumn Cherry on Cherry".

Jammonit--Thank you. We picked the door style as a baby step back from full Shaker. There's just a bit of curvature from the frame to the recessed panel.

Thanks maydl :) And even without VP it's still going to be a goregous kitchen LOL I just saw all that rich texture and wanted to add one more layer heh heh (And perhaps I want to see someone else suffer applying VP since I'm in mid application stage in my kitchen LOL)

And don't polish that darned copper! I love the dark patina that copper acheives over time.

So when do we get this darned kitchen started? I want to see the full copper collection :)

igloochic--We have started Week 3 of the remodel. Still in the non-photogenic stage, just basic construction and wiring coming out of the walls, not much to see yet. I don't have any photos of our copper stuff in Photobucket and, anyway, the kitchen ones are now leaning on walls scattered all over the house. Be patient--LOL, a Kitchen Forum cardinal virtue.

maydl, i love all of your choices....i hope you spent many hours making your choices, hehe....some folks can just pull it all together in a heartbeat, but not me, have to slave over every choice and second and third guess myself! anyway, could you tell me the name and where you purchased your backsplash...i'm still deciding on a backsplash and it looks beautiful!!!! Not sure if the color you indicated is for the floor tile or backsplash...thanks

ksoxgrl, thanks for your response. Yes, it took many hours to make our choices, especially since the rule was that DH and I would have to agree 100% on all of them. The first decision was the floor and backsplash, and everything else followed from that choice.

In the information given in my original post, Ceramiche Provenza is the name of the Italian manufacturer, "Cotti dÂEremo" is the line that both the floor and the backsplash belong to, and the color for both is Calore. The line also comes in two other "colorways", both of which I think are lighter. We were going for the look of old terracotta pavers.

Here is the Web site of the manufacturer: http://www. ceramicheprovenza.com. I think that somewhere on that site may be information about distributors. We bought it from a local tile store, and it seemed mid-priced compared to everything else we looked at.

    Hope this helps.

I love the choices (partly because my kitchen is similarly hued--monochromatic warm with a few shots of leafy green ;))
One question: How much do you like patina? There is an old-time poster here with a magnificent, huge rojo alicante (I think) island and she says she regrets the choice. Does anyone recall who that is? Photo will only convince you to get it; it's gorgeous.

    It's Rosso Verona.

I love those colours too- not just because I am a "Fall" person- anyone else remember being classified by seasons?

Strangely enough- my kitchen will now be in similar tones- purely by happenstance- as we had to have granite redone- and we both fell in love with a terra cotta coloured granite called Giallo Fiolio. I have always loved copper tones, and now, old pieces I've had since we were first married will look great in this 'new' new kitchen. The pyramid knobs and handles were on my short list too, so all I can say, is what great taste you have!!! :>)

Oh, and BTW, an article I read recently said that the newer trend in kitchen design is towards more tone on tone and less contrast, so guess you're on the cutting edge!

Wow!! I love everything that you have coordinated so well! Everything is going to be so beautiful, I can't wait to see pics of of your progress. I know how hard it is to decide on everything and you have done such a wonderful designer job. Good Luck!

kitchendetective--I did a search on Rosso Verona and found Sue B's kitchen from 2006; is that the one you mean? That is one amazing slab! We are going into this with eyes open: We had a honed rojo alicante tile that we marked off into sections and applied Coca Cola, lemon juice, ketchup, vinegar, etc. No surprise--deep etching everywhere. Sooooo, we're going to try to protect it the best we can, at least until the "sticker shock" from the remodel wears off: the working end of the island will be almost completely covered by a freestanding butcher block cutting board, and the eating/buffet end will benefit from use of place mats (us) and straw mats (buffet). Why get marble if you're going to cover it? Well, we wanted that color in the center of the room (not the dark perimeter granite), and it'll just be covered when there's food/drink around, and that won't be all the time.

raehelen--I'm glad we share such excellent taste! We love those Pyramid pulls and knobs; we used them in our master bath three years ago.

ngng--Thanks for the kind words. Progress pics will follow, when there's something "visible" to show. Right now it's all "in-the-wall" stuff.

Maydl, I chose the same tile for my backsplash! And a slightly lighter tile for the floor, same brand but a different color line. You can do a search on "finished treehouse kitchen" and see the pics if you'd like.

maydl - fellow marbler here and I have to say I had HUGE pangs of jealousy when I saw your choice of Rojo Alicante ... my DH is fully aware that the next project (bathroom? there's definitely something that needs more work in this house!) will/must have THAT marble. The day I went for templating for my Calacatta Gold, the stoneyard had just unloaded some of that and it stopped me in my tracks - I'm sure yours is going to be STUNNING!!!

kristi, I hope my backsplash shows the same vibrant color as yours does. That's EXACTLY what we were hoping for.

mnhockeymom, thanks for the good words. I don't expect my rojo alicante to be exactly stunning. Our slab is a little more quiet than most, but it has some nice white veining in it. We hope it will still turn out to be the focal point that we planned it to be.

Wow! What a fabulous combination. That's a lot of things to put together and have them work so well. I can't wait to see finished pictures!

Thanks, chefkev. After admiring your kitchen, I'm honored that you approve of my choices.
