Aww thanks for thinking of me Breezy!
They came late in the day and just delivered the cabs.
It was so exciting I was just dancing around all day. :0)
There is nothing to post pics of yet though. And as luck would have it, I'm headed to palm springs for a girls weekend. It will be very fun but I kinda want to just sit around watching the install!

At least when I get home it will be done! Yeah!!!
I will post a progress pic as soon as i can get a good one-they look so beautiful!!!!!

Argghhghghghggh! I wanted to see pics! I'll be patient. (((grump))). I don't want to be a downer, you are you sure you trust that everything will go well and that there won't be any decisions you need to be present for during install today?

    Have a great weekend!

Have fun on your trip. The weather is supposed to be nice and HOT. Can't wait to see the pictures when you get back of the cabinets.

Hey Breezy - ha ha ...NO!!! Of course i dont trust them at all! :D lol.. the control freak in me is not OK with leaving this up to DH and cabinet maker/installer.
But I promised my friend I'd go and I'm going. I snuck my cel phone # to Alex (cabinet guy) to call or text me or send me pics or anything, if there is even the slightest choice to me made.

Im trying to let it go - a few margaritas and Hot sun should help me mellow out just right ;o)

Slush - you're right it should be mid 90's and perfect! and sadly, rainy in LA!?! cant believe the weather this (and last) summer. cooling off - ya know!?

Glad to know we're thinking alike. No trust. Sounds like you're covering your bases the best you can.

Are you in LA? The margarita part sounds great to me, but not the 90's. There a reason I live in Washington. ;)

It's sunny and 77 here (about an hour away from LA and Palm Springs)...I'm in the middle!

mmmmm...Margaritas! Have you tried Beergaritas? They are so good - even to my friends who don't drink beer. We made some this past holiday weekend even though we couldn't have a BBQ because of the kitchen mess. Just throw it all in a pitcher.

12oz (1 bottle or can) Mexican beer
    1 can of frozen limeade
12oz water (just fill up the limeade can)
12oz Tequila (same thing - fill up limeade can)
2 limes and lots of ice

I've been experimenting with WAY to many drink recipes since the remodel started.

Hope you can relax a little this weekend.

Didn't Sandra Lee come up with that in her "Semi-Homemade" show? I don't generally like beer, but I've also heard this is tasty. Excuse me though, !!12!! ounces of tequila??? Yowza. Your Moon Night could look awfully psychedelic after a pitcher of those! :-)

    Boy, we're way OT now!

Breezy - maybe? hubby found the recipe last summer online on his search for a perfect margarita recipe. With the 12oz of tequila, and the sweetness of the limeade...it's a very dangerous drink. Yes totally OT now!

Dangerous is a good word to describe 12 oz of tequila! My current favorite cocktail is a Fuzzy Melon Ball. Need to get back to the liquor store as I ran out of vodka this week.

I was hoping that Celine would chime back in with a tidbit or two about how she heard install was going.

Since we are already OT I have to ask what is a fuzzy melon ball? It sound delicious.

Morning! Ok all those drinks sound SO good! Especially in this awesome heat!!!
Breezy I love the heat!!! dH talks about moving to Oregon all of the time. after spending last year living in England, I now know it's not in my cards.
    I need the sun!

So DH sent me 2 pics of the kitchen last night - it looks SO Cool!!!!!
I can't upload them to photobucket on the iPad though! Do you guys know why?
I'm dying to show them off.

And a question... I have a cabinet next to my fridge that has an appliance garage, does it have to me installed after the counter?

Rikerk--I happened to have all the ingredients on hand one night while searching for a new cocktail online. Yummy!!

    Fuzzy Melon
    3 oz vodka
    1 oz peach liqueur
    1 oz melon liqueur
    3 oz oj
1 oz pineapple juice (I always save the juice that comes from the high-quality canned pineapple my kids eat! What kind of mom am I turning into?)

Celine--you have cabinets! I wish ipads were a bit more like PCs sometimes. Remembering back to discussions of counter vs to-counter cabs, people do it both ways. When I saw pics and heard stories, it seemed to me like its better to do counter first as you can get a better fit. (some of the pics with cab first had a gap that I wouldn't have been happy with.) I'm planning that with my hutch cab if I can swing the cab maker's install right.

Btw, I like the sun too. Heat, however, makes me cranky. Living where it's so green most of the year makes me happy. Are you in LA?

Celine - there is an photobucket app for the iPad that supposedly lets up do that. Do you have that app? I use Picasa (googles) as my photo sharing site through my MAC so I'm not to familiar with that app. Hope it works for you, we are dying to see pictures!

No expert on the garage but a quick google search brought this thread about cabinets that meet counter.

Here is a link that might be useful: Cabinets that meet counter...

I am interested in seeing the cabinet reveal too, but wow those cocktails sound so good! My sister makes a variation on the beergaritas that is also good: (I hope I'm remembering it correctly). Beer punch:
1 beer, 1 can frozen raspberry lemonade, 1 can worth vodka and ice--- mix it and float some raspberries --- doesn't taste like beer, it just gives it a little bit of fizz.

I'm definitely trying the beergaritas, YUM! Enjoy the weekend!

The thread Slush posted is one of the few I was thinking of. Somewhere, there's a thread with more pics than that. This one does illustrate that most put in counters first, then cab.

mythreesonsnc - yes we've done very similar to that too! Called ...ready for this? "Skip and Go Naked": Beer, vodka, pink frozen lemonade, water, and ice.

I tried finding another thread with more photos of the appliance garages but can't figure out which is the "one". They seem to focus more on layout, then whether or not to install before or after countertops.

    Good Morning Guys!
PS was so great just hot and relaxing! No kids needing anything thing just lots of cocktails and magazines...aaahhhh.. I feel like a new woman!

ok! here are 2 pics of the kitchen that i got to come home to! OF course they are so bare bones, no doors, and sheesh my kitchen looks small1!! bummer!
And of course, there were a couple of small things that i will need to fix. Not huge, but im so glad my husband asked me about them. 1 is that the upper cabinets around the fridge are all 12" deep! wtf?
Contractor seemed surprised and said its fixable - so no worries.
    So, here we go.
this is s view of sink under window

and this is where the fridge will go...
that's the pantry door - love it with seeded glass!

It will be more interesting in a few days i think, so Ill post more then. This part is so fun!

Thanks for sharing! Can't wait to see more. Maybe I can talk DH into a girls getaway for me too before I lose my mind. Sounds like it was wonderful.

ohmigosh - i cant figure out why that pic is coming in upside down!
here it is again... if it's still upside down - there's not a ton to see... its so in progress!

Looking good! Love your pantry door. Looks like your kitty is coping well enough with the commotion.

Thanks for posting!! That was not upside down, btw.

Please post more when you're able. I'd love to see a better quality pic of your pantry glass. After suggestions on my DR uppers with booze storage thread this weekend, I'm considering seeded glass for two cabs.

Now I'm also bummed because you came along here more than a year after me and you already have cabs. )))sigh((( I know it's not all about me. I'm excited for YOU!

Thanks Breezy - that is so weird - that pic is still upside down to me! but the second one not. huh.

Im so sorry to you have such a long wait - my gosh! i feel like this has been forever and i know 4 months is nothing to some of you. We've been living in the gutted house - like idiots i guess, lol

I will post a pic of the seeded glass asap.

That iPad take the crappiest pics ever!
is there a setting or something to increase the resolution? The Photobucket apps is great though - thanks to Slush for rec'ing that.

They worked all day today but there's not too much difference - more little stuff going on. Then they are doing the banquette/ window seat next to the kit, THEN re-painting it all. (like one last coat of spray)
I'll have a new pic tomorrow!
oh - btw, we are in Los Angeles - or just on the edge near Malibu

So cool to see your cabs--even if they look a bit fuzzy! ;) Can't wait to see more, and I love your pantry door!

Kitty is too cute! My kitty (15 years old and extremely shy) will hide upstairs for however long it takes to get our kitchen and downstairs floors done. No one will even know we have a cat! Now the dogs are another matter, lol!

So it's been 10 days of very careful installation ... lots of woodworking details and prep for painting again.
The painting & staining gets started tomorrow. Mostly everything will be white except for the island legs and bottom of the wine/wet bar.

here are a few more pics. it's exciting to ME, but maybe humdrum for all of the you - they don't look too much different than the last ones i posted! :o)

    window over sink!

where the fridge will go...appliance garage.. MW drawer

    wine bar area..

Counters come on WEDNESDAY!!! woohoo - that will be a good day! :o)

Looks beautiful! I love the window and the wine bar. Love it all actually. Exciting to see everyone's progress. Wednesday as in tomorrow? It looks like maybe you meant next Wednesday? You're so close!

Oh ya- a week from today Wednesday.
Which, in the scheme of this whole process, feels like a nano-second!

I am so excited to see your progress! Thanks for sharing. Your island will be soooo gorgeous.

Yea! More pics! It looks gorgeous. I've been wondering how it was going. I can almost see your Blue Star sitting there waiting to be broken in.

What color white are the cabs?

Thanks for the warning about Wednesday. And I say warning because I think I'll probably have a coronary when I see how stunning that Calacatta is going to look in there. I need to be prepared when I look. ;) Thanks for posting these.

Thank Breezy - You are so funny. I hope i haven't worked myself up too much abut the marble being great and then am disappointed - ya know.

Here's a pic of the pantry and close ups if the glass. e saw a sample that had more "seeds" than we ended up with but it's because once you temper the glass, some seeds go away.
I still like it though. Maybe you dont have to temper upper door?
The pantry redo is awesome too! cant wait to show it off as well! :o)

oops - sorry, paint on the cabinets and woodwork is BM Cloud White. Looks pretty warm but i thinks its the lights. I love it!

This looks amazing! Love the glass too!
