Bluestar with backspash?

Hello,

In the serious decision-making stages of the long-awaited kitchen remodel here...

Getting a Bluestar RNB 30" to replace our beloved commercial range (a Garland- Bluestar's grandmother) that is freestanding. The Garland has its own backsplash, which we like. It has a shallow and useful shelf on top.

We're thinking of getting the same with the Bluestar for many reasons: the amount of cooking we do, preventing potential heat damage to the tile backsplash, having an easier-to-clean space back there, having the handy shelf....

Anyone have experiences with the stainless backsplash- good or bad? Also, anyone have the stainless backsplash with a colored Bluestar (we haven't decided on the color yet, either?

thanks!

While I don't have the backsplash, my painted BS is in the kitchen just waiting to be fired up. When I look at it and imagine a stainless backsplash with the black doors, I think it would look great because of the stainless ledge on the front.

Have you seen the new bit on their website, "build your own" BS? (I missed that one by a few months, darn it!)I haven't played with it but I'll be you can add the backsplash to it. Have fun!

verbenaj - I don't have a full backsplash nor the shelf so I'm not sure if this info will help you. But, we have a 8" stainless steel backsplash behind our Bluestar. I do all my high heat cooking on the rear right (22k BTU) burner, as a result the BS has a huge char mark. I used to scrub the BS daily, but I've grown tired of breaking out the Barkeepers Friend to clean it. Did you have this problem with your Garland?

The SS backsplash is too close to the rear burner which prevents a large pan/pot from fitting on the burner. It also contributes to the charring. I've read comments from other Bluestar owners that they have little to no charring on their tile (logic is that that tile is further from the flame than the SS BS). I will be replacing the 8" SS BS with the island trim and will tile the BS - when I finally get around to doing the BS in the rest of the kitchen.

I have a BS Rangetop with the island trim and a full panel stainless backsplash with the little wire fold down shelves that are built in to the SS backsplash. It looks great with my big Broan stainless hood.

I have not had the charring/burn marks that many people complain about with the 22K burner on the rear. I use it all the time with no issues (maybe because of the island trim?).

I would have loved to go with a tile backsplash behind the rangetop, but I'm not a clean freak and thought that I would do better keeping the stainless backsplash wiped down.

Congrats on your BlueStar.... I'm in true love with mine. I've had it for a little over three years now and I am still on my honeymoon with it! I just love to fire it up and cook (which thrills my husband!).
