Offset Kitchen Faucet?

My dilemma: We are building a new house. In the kitchen, custom hickory cabinets with riverwashed absolute black granite counters and custom single-bowl sink. The issue? Not enough clearance behind the sink for my faucet because we also have a 3 cm granite backsplash - the riverwash only comes in 3 cm. The sink backs up to a raised counter/bar (or perhaps the bar backs up to the sink) and my husband insists on the granite backsplash between granite counter/sink/bar. (The rest of the kitchen backsplash will be something else - probably travertine.)

The granite guy suggested off-setting the faucet on one side or the other. Or splitting it - he said he has had customers who did the spout on one side and the handle on the other.

I just CANNOT visualize this. I think I would perhaps opt for everything on one side simply for counter space saving measures. But I've never seen a kitchen sink set to the side.

Anyone ever seen it? Anyone have it? Can you pass along a picture?

Thanks!
