I'm working on a very DIY refinishing of my kitchen and am about to start making the templates for my new slate countertops. Any thoughts on how much the top should overhang the cabinets? The slate guy suggested about 1", I think the old Formica I ripped off was about 1 inch or so, and most of the references here say 1.5" is standard. The cabinets have thick plywood tops that I will be setting the new top on, so there will be plenty of support.
