completely stuck on ceiling lighting

As we are nearing the end of work on the kitchen, I've found that I'm completely stuck on lighting for my creamy white kitchen w/full granite backsplash. Although most of the kitchen is light tones (except dark island) I'm finding the interior kitchen somewhat dark. Ok, and my photography skills are lacking :)

Any ideas for transitional-contemporary fixtures above the island and eating area? Do I need to look for something with colored glass to break up the white? Or should I look for something with creamy white to continue the creamy light look?

I like this one but it's pricey, especially if I need 2 fixtures.

i like the fixture a lot! how about in a darker finish? try to look for a thread that starts with kelleg, erikanh,....there is a pic in it with a white kitchen and a dark light fixture....it doesn't look like your kitchen, but it show you a white kitchen with nickel hardware and a dark fixture....i will also attach one of my inspiration pic....same coloring as your kitchen with a dark fixture.....not really my type of fixture, but dark! it can give you an idea....

Thanks gglks. That was part of my dilemma. I really wasn't sure if I had to go with nickel finish because the rest of the kitchen hardware is nickel. So, ok to go with say a bronze finish on the lighting fixture?

What about the other lighting in the kitchen? Under cabinet? Recessed? Over cabinet lighting? Other accent lighting?

It takes a combination of all types of lighting to make a kitchen work correctly.

live wire oak is right about the functionality of your lighting. but from a purely decorating standpoint, it's ok to mix your finishes. i have seen a ton of magazine pictures with different finishes. when i have time, i'll try to look for a few from online sites. i think the darker finish for you lighting would really look much better...jmo!
