i haven't started my kitchen renovation yet (it starts in September), but i did order wood mode cabinets in cottage white with a mild distressing... you hadn't mentioned the cottage white so maybe take a look at that color. it is similar to the vintage white with a brown underglaze. good luck

Don't look at the samples together, put one in the room at a time.

If I remember you currently have a blue kitchen, that may be making the French Vanilla look more yellow..., but it will also look yellow against plain white paper.

Do you have any flooring yet? Try looking at it with only the flooring and the countertop material.

I think your insticts are telling you to go for the French Vanilla! You keep coming back to it. Stay true to yourself and you can't go wrong.

By the way, I've seen the FV in a showroom and it is lovely. It didn't seem too yellow to me at all. Of course, the light there could be very different from your light, but who knows...

Hmm...We are probably going to get ours in Antique White. I am looking at a sample door right now in Antique White and it doesn't look pink-ish to me. The French Vanilla does look more yellow , next to the Antique white, but not at all in a bad way. I do think the Eggshell looks a little too dark for us as well.

I think the Antique White and the French Vanilla look pretty similar, and you would probably be happy with either. Sometimes, having too many choices makes things harder!!

When I was in our local Wood-Modee / Brookhaven showroom, I asked the kitchen designer which opaque finish was closest in color to a Wood-Mode display they had in a vintage finish, since I liked that display. French Vanilla was the closest. I think he said the display was Vintage White, but IÂm not positive. You might want to compare the French Vanilla sample with the Wood-Mode vintage samples to see. I have seen a number of kitchens done in the Vintage White and they are beautiful!

I think they have more whites now than they did when I got mine. They already had the most of any line I saw, but white kitchens have also exploded in popularity in the meantime. Anyway, mine are probably too white for you -- Nordic white. I have had 2 kitchens of site built customs painted in oil based white paint and yellowing to a dingy yellow -- not creamy at all. Anything with a pink tone was also out after taking all the pink, mauve and rose out of the same two houses. I wanted a clean, bright white.

Can you take sample doors home and look at them in your lighting? That's really the best way to tell what is too bright and what is too yellow or pink or whatever. I had to test the Nordic White to make sure it wouldn't be too much even though I wanted a clean white. In our lighting, it works.

Thanks everyone or all the help and encouragement! I seem to recall that the vintage white and perhaps cottage (not sure) had some kind of glaze or other finish involved and I want absolutely plain painted. I will go down to the showroom tomorrow to check. Also I am not sure they are Brookhaven colors maybe only Wood Mode but I will check.

palimpsest: Yes - you are right I have the blue kitchen right now! I will put one color at a time in there now - that is a great idea and I know that is how to do paint! I am still really leaning to the french vanilla. With all the lights off and on an overcast day the eggshell looks too dark and drab and the french vanilla looks much warmer and lighter.

ebse - thanks for your advice - I wish I could see the FV in a showroom also. There is another showroom here but I am not sure I want to go there as I am not buying from them now and that would be awkward. BTW I really love your kitchen and the alpine white does look great.

BTW - I think the antique white only looks pinkish to me when it is next to the other color samples. Perhaps I should look at it on its own.

My GC actually yelled at me yesterday, in front of a room full of people. What a jerk. Anyway, the only reason that I am telling you this is because if I resume good terms with him, I'll ask if I can take a picture of the FV.

Otherwise, I really think its beautiful. I hope you choose it, I'm dying to see it done in a full kitchen!

An update: I went back to the showroom today and it confirmed to me that the colors under consideration for me are the alpine white, antique white, french vanilla and eggshell. Everything there looked as it does in my house: eggshell too dark/grey and antique white slightly pinky/peachy (Mind you I mean only very slightly and that is compared to french vanilla). By some miracle the KD said they had just done a kitchen in a nearby house in the french vanilla and the homeowner was good enough to let me go and see it. It was even in the doorstyle I am considering -edgemont. I need to report that the color is gorgeous. When I walked in to the kitchen I could not believe it was the french vanilla as I was so biased that it would look yellow. I kept asking are you sure it is the french vanilla! But the KD said it was and honestly I knew it was but it was so much less yellow than I feared. Just a really lovely creamy off white. So that confirms it - french vanilla it is for me!!

ebse: I really hope things improve with your GC/KD - but chin up your kitchen WILL be gorgeous in the end because you are looking after the details - even though it should be his job! No worries about a pic of the FV now - but thanks for the offer.

I am choosing it and eventually (lord knows when) I will post pics here (assuming the room comes out respectable looking)....

all: No, sorry I did not take pictures - was just so glad the homeowners were so kind as to welcome a stranger to view their newly done kitchen. I have to say again that it did not in any way read yellow to me. In my space the alpine white is too white and also much more grey. Comparing both with Ben Moore whites I would say the alpine white is similar to the White Dove and the French Vanilla is similar to the Navajo white.

I now have to agonize over whether I want the edgemont door or the plainer colony...

What did you decide to do? I am having the same dilemna years later - thank you!

Romy718 - we like Nordic White too though felt the sample matte panel (shaker recessed panel) in the showroom looked plasticky. I am not sure if I am obsessing. Have you got Brookhaven in Nordic White cabinets and do you like them?

I've got a mix of Wood-Mode and Brookhaven in Nordic White. I don't have a matte finish in either. I love them. The finish is beautiful & the main reason I went with WM/BH.

Thanks. Do you happen to know if your cabinet doors are MDF or wood (pre-painting)? I think perhaps the paints sits on those materials a little differently, not sure.

I was going to do nordic white and then I discovered what my designer called vintage 500. I think it's somewhat new? It's like nordic white with the softest most beautiful glaze. So I'm not a traditional glaze person. This is not that look. It's so soft and makes the white have this brushed look. It adds this gentle visual texture, I can't explain. I love it so much. It was more expensive do do this glaze than regular paint but it was worth it to me. It is not shiny, I'd say maybe like an eggshell sheen.

Any chance you could post a photo? Sort of close up and also from distance?

Here's some info I found on the construction of Brookhaven. I don't know how much to upgrade to Brookhaven II which are all wood. I don't think we upgraded to the Brookhaven II & the cabinet doors do feel different. My Brookhaven cabinets are the Edgemont door. I did those in a hallway & laundry room. WM are the Regent door & those are in the kitchen.

I know there's debate about MDF versus wood for the cabinet front & side panels.

I am in the process of redoing my kitchen however I can't seem to choose between Nordic white or bright white in Brookhaven edgemont. I know I like it to look white not sterile but white. Kitchen always seems dark. I have had the samples for a couple of weeks any suggestions. Thanks Maureen

We are in the process of installing Brookhaven bright white cabinets in our beach house. We were initially going to do nordic white, but our trim is BM distant gray, which is a very crisp white and the nordic white looked dingy next to it. I was really nervous that the bright white would have blue undertones but in our space, it doesn't. Having said that, we're going for a cooler palette...gray stained oak floors, BM sea salt walls, colonial white granite. If you want warmer tones, nordic white would be better. Hope this helps.

Does anyone have a paint match for Nordic White? I need to paint some crown molding to match our Nordic white cabinets.

I was told once that Benjamin Moore White Dove matched Brookhaven Nordic White. Don't have experience with it but it could be a good place to start.

I took my Nordic White Wood-Mode cabinet door to the paint store yesterday and the computer suggested Icicle. It looks really really close. I was between White Dove and Icicle and chose Benjamin Moore Icicle. Fingers crossed!

I found the match for Nordic White. It’s BM Cloud White. A Kitchen/bath design center gave me the info. I ordered a sample (see attached pic). I think the match is right on, although I never thought it matched when I first looked at the sample.

Taj Mahal quartzite looks good with most whites. I have it with BM Chantilly Lace cabinets, but others here have used it with all kinds of whites and off-whites.

Anyone know a quartz with a creamy off white background that has some soft blue or grey/blue veining? i think some additional beige veining would also be ok. i tried a sample of Taj Mahal ( thank you chispa) , but would like a bit more contrast/ movement.
