Frost free freezers are only suitable for short term food storage. The heating cycle that raises the temperature enough to melt the frost also raises the temperature of the frozen food and the cycling of the temperatures leads to freezer burn very quickly. For long term food storage (over 3 months) a manual defrost freezer is the better option. I've had a 20 cubic foot manual defrost Amana for 20 years. It will be replaced some time this year with another 20 cubic foot manual defrost, probably a GE brand. I expect to pay around $500 for it after whatever sales promo that HD has is happening. I open the freezer about 4 times a week to either put away purchases to to get out something for dinner. I haven't had to defrost it but about once a year. I use a hair dryer and it makes quick work of it.

We've had a 14 cu ft. upright frostfree freezer for oh, about 20 years. Always full and heavily used. Hated the chest freezer and would never have one again, so each to his own.

Frigidaire has one: model FFU17F5, I believe. For fancier looks, there's the Sidekick model at a higher price. Frigidaire makes the 14 cu. ft. model rebadged for Kenmore, which is the one I have.

The Sears Kenmore Pro all freezer are energy star.
