Not the fun part . . .

Packing up the kitchen - why didn't anyone mention all the cleaning? I knew I'd be trying to do some organization as I packed, but I didn't expect to have to wash stuff. Maybe I'm more of a slob than most people. I'm going into a base blind corner where the sun never shines, and the stuff back there was not pretty.

I am procrastinating, as you can tell. Whine. I don't want to pack anymore . . .

It is not fun, that's for sure. My DD and I just put stuff in boxes and stacked them on shelves in the dining room. I did all that washing and cleaning as I moved back into the new kitchen. It was a good chance to sort to save, donate or toss. Sorting allowed me to find the 47 batteries, 10 whisks, etc, etc, scattered among the drawers and cabinets.

Good luck and enjoy your new kitchen.

    I'm going to need more boxes . . .

I have the kitchen, dining room, and living room to pack because they will be doing work in all three room . . .

Oh, yeah! One of the non-joys of the old kitchen was the vent to nowhere which let in dirt. Everything under the cooktop, and especially in the two corners where I kept canned and packaged goods, needed a good wash. Needless to say, I only kept things that could be washed as they were used there. And there's stucco there now! (Yeah!!)

The part I'm not looking forward to is washing everything to put it away. I figure that at least that'll keep me from just shoving things in cupboards to get the job done.

Pack it up as it is and wash it when you get ready to put it away. You'll be surprised how much you get rid of when you get to re-staging your new cabinets. But, I AM a slob... ~:o)

I sympathize! And...it always takes longer than you think it will! How long could it possibly take to take stuff out of cabinets & put them into boxes...it should be a snap! Yeah, right........

BTW...now you know one of the reasons I hate blind corner cabinets...and those corner cabinets w/stationary shelves (i.e., no lazy susan)....I had one of the latter in my old kitchen as an upper cabinet. The bottom & second shelves were OK, but there were a lot of "There it is!" moments when I got to the top shelf!

It was amazing what I found in those our two blind corner cabinets. Some of it hadn't been touched in the 15 years since we moved in! I can sympathize with you lovlilynne. We are remodeling our entire first floor consisting of the kitchen, dining room, living room, family room, and half bath. I've been without furniture for going on 11 weeks. We rented a storage unit for all the furniture and around 40 boxes. Sometimes I want to just go visit my furniture...I miss sitting on a sofa to watch TV in the worse way!

Now that the kitchen is basically done, most everything for that has been moved back in. Haven't found my rolling pin yet, however. :) It's still in one of these boxes.

It will be all worth the work in the end. Just keep plugging away.

Boy I can sympathize and nhbaskets we are in a similar situation. My butt sure hurts from sitting on the floor to watch t.v.! Aint as young as I used to be.

I just packed the stuff without cleaning it (but I am also a slob - I admit it)and got rid of alot of stuff. however, some of the stuff I left out in open boxes because I thought I'd possibly be using it and I can't stand the dust on everything. I've thrown towels over things but I'm starting to really go nuts. Plus I read another post about bugs in boxes and now I just want to go through everything again and throw out more stuff and put more stuff away in closed boxes!

    Good luck!
