Do you prefer a table with a pedestal or legs? If legs, do you like more "squared off" contemporary style legs, farm house style legs or more formal? That'll help with the search!

Small... I wouldn't do a small stone top with kids. A small table might just be pushable, and then dangerous. Large stone tables have gravity going for them. :)

Since you mention iron chairs, have you thought about a set meant for a garden? There are some gorgeous aluminum or iron ones out now that are pretty reasonably priced. It should be easy to find small for that too.

This one isn't really what I meant, but it's cut and might work with your colors. Or might be really really awful.

I have a small round table in my breakfast nook. It has a black marble top and seats 2 - I bought it about 7 years ago for about $100 at the Bombay Company which I don't think is around any longer but you might be able to find something like it somewhere else. You can see pictures on my homepage or the Finished Kitchens Blog. The chairs did not come with the table - they were bought separately.

The small, round bistro/cafe table in my dining nook is similar to Weissman's except that it's a white marble. (You can see a photo of the tabletop that I posted a bit earlier on the Imperial Danby thread). I purchased the base at an Urban Archaeology (NYC) salvage sale. I then chose my own marble from a remnant at the stone yard, had them fabricate and install it. BTW, between the cast iron table base which is very heavy, and the marble top (1 1/4" thick), which is also very heavy, it takes some strength to move this table. Children would not be able to topple it. The chairs are French rattan armchairs with a rilsan weave. Very comfy!
