30' Deep Counters?

Does anyone have pics they can show with 30" deep counters?

If a U shaped kitchen, do you regret losing the foot of length for the base cabinets in the connecting section?

Thank you!

There's really not much to see on a 30" counter --
The real difference is that you can have a small appliance or cannister parked on the counter and still have ample workspace in front of it.

The loss of sotrage space would only matter if you're right on the border of "not enough" anyway.

The pictures I have of our penultimate kitchen don't really show off the deep counters -- sorry. It wasn't really a u-shape, and the kitchen itself was large so we never noticed the "missing" floor space. But I'll tell you, now that we have "only" 24" deep counters and drawers I really, really miss the extra depth! In a way it's the biggest regret of this kitchen remodel, but given our footprint we couldn't afford the extra-deep counters. Next house!

I have 30" deep cabinets all around the U of my kitchen. We put Magic Corner units from Hafele in the corners. There is 6" behind the unit and another foot off to the back but loosing that space was more than made up for with the extra depth. Our kitchen is fairly small but thanks to efficient layout - 4 people can work comfortably in it - and have done so - often!

I think you can get tpo my pictures through (my page). It's not in the FKB yet - we're still needing a backsplash.

Ok I don't understand, what happens to the range and such with this depth? Can someone post a picture with the standalone range in it?

    thanks!

Lovetocook - wow! drawers in your toe kicks! So cool! Phenomenal kitchen!

Don't know if you can see much here or not. The counters are deep, so there is a strip of countertop running behind the stove. I had to build a box to "bump out" the hood from the wall, so that it was properly positioned over the stove.

Revans brings up a good point... we used an island mount hood as our stove is in a 30" deep counter (it's a cutout/drop in induction cooktop) and in front of a window. Had the window not been there we may have been able to wall mount a hood but would also have needed the bump out or box.

Also all our drawer banks have 30" deep drawers. They hold a FORTUNE of stuff and make it all so accessible.

BTW, our upper cabinets are 15" deep instead of the standard 12" and those extra inches all the way around the kitchen more than make up for the lost corner space. And the 30" deep tray storage above the double ovens is fantastic. I can store trays, cutting boards and platters 2 deep in there and do.

loves2cook4six: can you post a picture of what your range and hood look like in front of the window? I was thinking of doing something similar, but didn't know how it would look.

loves2cook4six - we're planning on doing 30" deep countertops as well. But 30" deep drawers with full extension glides? Where did you get these done? I assume custom - but even with custom places, I keep hearing that full extension glides themselves are only 24" deep?

I'm not loves2cook4six, but we have 29" counters on our stove run...Most people, us included even though DH made our cabinets, use 24" deep cabs and install them out from the wall. Only the counter is deeper than usual, so no extra long drawers or drawer slides needed.

FWIW, our extra-deep cabinets do have the full-extension glides. The cabinets are Alno, and that was just one of the options. Very nice to have, but certainly something you could live without.

MY 27" deep cabs also have full extention. They're Omega.

30" is so nice...you can line up 3 dinner plates from back to front. I miss that!

I love our 30 inch deep cabinets and counters! It's one of the best decisions made for the kitchen. It's great to have room for the necessary appliances and workspace in front of them plus the extra storage in the cabinets. Ours is a U-shape. Here's a photo of the kitchen and then one of the contents of one of the deep drawers (the big roasting pan is the large one from Costco for size perspective).

I was considering 30" counters, but it wouldn't work in my set up. That being said, if you do go with deeper counters, watch where you place the sink. I recently visited my DB & SIL, they went with 30", but I found washing dishes at the sink was really uncomfortable. It was a real stretch. Perhaps if the sink were closer to the front of the counters. JMHO

orry guys - busy weekend planned and a Happy Father's Day to y'all!

    To answer some questions...
Our cabinets were custom built by Ayr cabinetry out of Nappannee Indiana. They ship all over the country and I can't recommend them highly enough. They were INCREDIBLE to work with.

Because they were custom built, we have no fillers and all our lower cabinets are drawers only except for the corner units. ALl the drawers under the 30" counters are 30" deep, well actually they are probably about 28 " due to counter overhang and cabinet framing. They all have full extension, soft close glides (not sure of the brand) rated to 150 lbs per drawer (le Creuset can be really heavy LOL)

Here's a picture of the cooktop under the window with the island mount exhaust:

DH and I are both tall so we chose to mount the cooktop back 3" from the front of the counter. Shorter people may prefer it closer to the edge of the counter.

Patti, your kitchen is gorgeous. Enjoy it!
