Joy! It's beautiful. I love the cab color mix. It feels right in your space. What kind of glass is in the yellow cab? Is the mixer hard to get out of the pullout?

I can't wait to see your wood counters. I'm thinking walnut for my island also, but my cab maker can't/won't do mine. It's coming together for you!

I have to chuckle looking at your photos of the plumbing coming down through the ceiling, and those great old wood floors. Both of which make me feel at home - aren't old houses great!

If I remember right, wasn't your father-in-law doing either the cabinets or the counters?

Thanks everyone.. the glass is water glass, and the sample looked more subtle.. like the old wavy glass in some of my old windows. I like that I dont really need that cabinet for anything specific.. everything so far has a place, so I can put whatever looks pretty there. The kitchenaid is perfect back in there. I can adjust the shelves, and I'm sure I'll reorganize once I get a good feel for where I want everything so I might give it a little more headroom than it has right now.

The yellow looks great with the green in natural light, but its really washed out with the current lighting at night. I'll have to fiddle with different kinds of bulbs once I get my lighting in.

The prep are is great. I only have plywood there now, but I know it will be awesome. I can see the kids shooting hoops in the driveway!

Johnliu - we've been all over the place. My dad could make the cabinets, but doesnt have the space for it right now. He could also do the countertops - but same issue. He's doing all of the other work with my husband though. He's in charge of the floors while we're gone for the weekend.

But I can't help but wonder why did you choose to leave the ceiling open like that while finishing on the kitchen? Sorry, don't mean to pick on you, but it seems against everything I read about. Wouldn't your kitchen get super duper dusty when you put sheetrock up the ceiling and start plastering?

I'm such a type A person and it works against me often. For example, we were about to install a cabinet run, but I didn't want to do it until I finish the wiring. We are not opening walls for it, but I wanted to do it "proper". And also I want to investigate a crack/bulge in the wall next to the cabinet run. Is that due to structural changes (since that wall is leaning a bit)? If it is , is that because of foundation move? Maybe we should get our foundation fixed first. In the nutshell, we set ourselves further and further back from having anything installed. It's kinda cool to see someone do it out of sequence.

We are dong a suspended ceiling and were going to butt it up to the top of the cabinets. The panels I've chosen are not flat so that made more sense then having gaps where the cabinet meets the ceiling panel. Clear as mud? :)

Your kitchen is absolutely charming. I love its friendly, happy vibe and the original touches.

Joy, it's all coming together so beautifully! I love your cabs--the colors work great together. The yellow cab is so charming, and the pullouts are amazing! Your floors turned out great; what stain did you use? I think it comes close to matching my woodwork. I can't wait to see your countertops!

Joy, I just saw your befores, thanks for that link (still new to this forum) and WOW! It's looking great!! Love the floors but I bet you sure miss that fridge. Give your Dad a hug for a job very well done :)

Floor looks wonderful. Please tell us what kind of wood it is and what finish did you use.

Sherwin Williams oil stain. We had them do a custom match to our existing woodwork and darken it a titch. They used their shade called Fruitwood and added a little red and yellow. Then I've got SW satin floor varnish.The wood is 100+ year old oak. At least think it is oak? I'm so glad we were able to refinish it! It's not perfect and that bothered my dad but it's exactly what I wanted!, I DON'T want perfect! I'm staining the dining room tonight. Then once that is fully cured, I'll do the living room and eventually work my way upstairs.

I remember you were thinking of using the Kohler Stages 45" at one point. I was intrigued by your idea of fitting the deep part of the sink in a 36" base cabinet, spilling over to the blind corner. Did you go with the 33" instead? Was that because of a space issue with the original idea? I am so smitten by that sink, and have limited counterspace in a smallish kitchen, but I'm worried that the 33 will feel small. Have you used it enough to have an opinion yet? Would love to get your feedback!

really special kitchen. I adore the glass cabinet. Old wood floors like that really make a kitchen so warm and inviting. I love it... congrats on great progress.
