Now we're getting somewhere...progress pics!

Hi All,

After months of working on the kitchen design, construction, and everything else that goes with a new house...I feel like we are finally getting somewhere. I might actually move in sometime this month!

Granite is being templated tomorrow, so most of the base cabs got set today. The uppers will be in tomorrow morning. YAY!

One little mistake by the KD involves a unintended space in the island underneath where the overhang goes. If they can't create a finished panel that looks like my end panels, I am going to make her switch out the cabinet boxes. I only lose 6" of storage by going for the filler and I can still keep the granite install date of next Friday. So, that is my preference at this point. I figure- what a great place to mess up, if any! Under the overhang on the island where no one will ever see!

What are your thoughts on the floors? They will be finished in the house, but I am not sure about the finish. To stain or just clearcoat? I don't know...What do you think?

Bev Fridge goes in the hole in the island:

My hutch cabinet (upside down)- The microwave will live in the bottom part. The doors roll back when its in use.

The layout- many thanks to you!

I think it looks beautiful. How exciting to get to the point where you can see the pieces going into place!

What wood is your floor? It looks lovely. If it were mine, I think I'd want it a little darker than it looks right now - but not so dark that it will match the island stain. My two cents anyway - will be interesting to see what others think.

I'm looking at Brookhaven cabinets too - what is the stain on your island. (it's very pretty).

Clear coat oh yeah. That's my vote IMOHO. I like understated on the floor. Your accents should shine!

I like light floors. However, if your floor is maple, I might ever so slightly stain it (AKA... light color) so the yellow hue that maple gets doesn't come through as it ages.

Abbeys- the island color is matte brown with black glaze (maple). The floors are quarternsawn vertical grain oak. 5". We live in a humid environment and the vertically grained oak is less susceptible for swelling (i hear).

Celtin- thats sort of what I was thinking...I think it would also be easy to keep clean (or look clean :))

Remodelfa- we're not maple, so does that mean you like the idea of keeping it light? Your kitchen is looking awesome and so close to being at the finish line.

It looks great, and the floor contrasts nicely with your island.

    lookin' good!
so nice to see progress isnt it?!
we are almost installed (cabs at least) too!
    takes longer than i thought!

Lately when I read your name in my head I hear the song "Diana" with your name Brianna. Had to share.

Hooray for more pics! Everything looks great. The cabs look very high quality. Your unhunks are quick workers. This phase must be so fulfilling.

As far as the floors, I'm a darker floor kinda gal so I say stain it as dark as you can go without coming too close the the beautiful island color.

Curious, why aren't the floors covered for protection?

I'd put a clear coat on the floor. I like the contrast with your cabs, both the dark and the cream, staining would IMO clash with the dark island. HTH, Petra

I love what I see so far, looking forward to the pictures of the end result!

WOW......Your baby is changing so fast! Love the cabs and the lighter floor.

Petra- thanks! i cant wait to see the final result either!

    B- thanks!

Breezy- the floors aren't covered because they were just installed this week. Since they will be sanded and finished in house, they don't need protection. Apparently the sanding will take care of any minor flaws/damage.

I can see why you're so excited--everything looks beautiful! From your pics, I think the natural floor gives your house an open and airy feel. It goes great with both your stained and painted cabs. Can't wait to see more pics when your countertops are installed!

How exciting! Looks great so far. I love your pendants. Can't wait to see more.

    Brianadarnell,

Can you tell us what color finish is on the perimeter islands?

    Thanks!

Looks great so far! I like the lighter floors in your space. So, either clearcoat or maybe a light stain.

Briana - The kitchen looks beautiful. I would not stain the floors, the contrast is lovely and light with the grounded darker island and white cabinets. Good luck with rest.

It's looking beautiful! Can't wait to see the final reveal.

    Hi bri...

It looks lovely so far...I see you found some similar pendants..Gorgeous! My DH and I did our cleaning ritual on our pendants last night...it had been too long. Wow, what a difference. I didn't realize how dusty they had become! Even though they require a little TLC, I still love their look.

    Which granite did you choose?

Keep posting pictures..love seeing the progress..

Everyone- thanks for your comments. I'm getting so excited and I am so happy to hear that most of you think the contrast of the island and floors works. That was my feeling, but it always helps to have others opinions.

KA- I chose GO for the countertops. Its the light version and I am headed to the stone warehouse this morning to lay out the templates on our slabs. EEK! The brown in the GO should pull the perimeter cabs and island together nicely. Granite will be installed on Friday.

Piglet- Are you looking at Brookhaven? all cabinets are the edgemont door and the top drawers are a 5 piece drawer instead of a slab door. The perimeter cabs are antique white. HTH
