I worried alot about putting led's as my ucl since I don't like harsh or cold lighting. My new ucls were installed yesterday and I LOVE them! They were inexpensive, dimmable LEDs on tape from Home Depot.

They're warm, fully dimmable and light my bs magnificently! I couldn't be more happy! I had them angle the tape to light my entire bs and then double them over my cooktop. One row points down to light up my cooking and the other lights up my back splash!

Very affordable and they're equally as warm as incandescents.

I have Seagull Linear LED UCL. It's dimmable, but honestly, I pretty much never dim it. I got dimmable based on threads here where people said it was great, but I only ever dim the overhead lights. I do like the Seagull lights, though.

I have 25 dimmed circuits, many 3-way, in my house. My UCL are not one of them, and I don't miss it at all.

I used the system from InspiredLED -- a mix of tape and "designer series". The latter is simply the tape fabricated in custom sized housings with connectors and a diffusing cover. They are 12V, with a dimmable transformer in series with a wall switched Lutron Diva dimmer.

I used Maxlite dimmable bars from Environmentallights.com and I dim them frequently, at least at the moment. They're still new :-)

As long as you buy dimmable strips and compatible dimmers, and the dimmers can be installed with your wiring configuration, should be fine.

I have Tech Lighting "Unilume" LED under-cabinet lights. Very nice but also very pricy; I probably wouldn't have bought them without the 50% discount I got.

The Unilumes dim nicely if you install the right dimmer. (They provide a list of ones they've tested.) I haven't moved in yet so I can't say whether I'll ever actually use it. My electrician told me he dims his sometimes for mood lighting when eating or entertaining in his great room that's open to the kitchen. He talked me into putting in outlets for dimmable over cabinet lights for the same reason.

LEDs usually want an "ELV" dimmer: Electronic Low Voltage or some such thing.

I used Phillips eW Powercore. These do not require a transformer, and are dimmable using an ELV dimmer. (Full disclosure: I never did get around to installing the dimmer!)

We also have Inspired LEDs. They needed a different transformer than the one that was installed to be dimmable via the wall switch. I decided to see if I would really want them dimmed before we bought it. I'm perfectly happy without dimming them. For the EcoSmart 6 inch cans, we used a Lutron Maestro LED dimmer and use it all the time. The slow fade to off is so cool :)
