Which coffee table ottoman for this space?

This room is still being put together and I'm going for a transitional style. This is the room we will be using on a regular basis. The first ottoman is more traditional looking, I would say, but I love the style. It measures 40x30x18.5.

And the more contemporary style one, which measures 51x31x18.

Which do you like better for the room, or neither?

Maybe the leather is too dark for the room and you would rather see something else there in its place? Please give me your thoughts.

I think the leather is beautiful, and I agree with you, the first one is lovely! The darkness isn't a problem for me, but I would like to see a rug in there, otherwise you're going to loose the ottoman into the floor. Although your room does have a contemporary vibe, I don't think that means you can't have a traditional piece or two. I actually find a mix of styles to be much more interesting.

Thanks ronniroo. I still need to get a light colored rug, some WTs, tables, and possibly a side chair with some wood tones to it and legs to keep it from getting too bottom heavy in the room. I should have mentioned that I would be getting a rug for the room as well.

    #1 for sure!

I love #1! I think it would look great in your room. It has more pizazz.

IMO I think either would look very nice in your room. Personally, I like the simple lines of the 2nd one but #1 seems to go better with your art. Go with the one you like best. You can see what they look IRL we can't.

I guess I'm the dissenter here, I prefer # 2. I like the lines of it better with your clean lined sofa and loveseat, as well as the darkness of the wood which mimics the same shade in the artwork. Beautiful painting, BTW, can you tell us where you found this? I absolutely love it!

Thank you for your opinions, everyone!

Nanny, I got the artwork at postercheckout.com and ordered the canvas transfer. It still needs a frame but thought I'd wait and match it to the other wood tones in the room.

They're both great, and as others have said either will totally work in your room. I have to say though that I think that #2 works better with your furniture. That said though, whichever you choose will look great, really. Trust your gut.

Oh, I much prefer #1 in your space... it is lovely, btw.

Also, dark is good. You want a bit of dark to "ground" the space.

I vote for #1 also. It's a bit more "detailed" in a way that i think compliments both the rocks in your art, and the character of your fabrics. I really really love your room.

Thanks so much! For those of you who said #1 was your favorite, that is the one I'm going with, or at least one with the tufted top. Something about it that I really like.

I'm glad you went with #1; it is, by far, my favorite. I loved your choice of fabrics. Which of them will be used on what?

I really like #1 best . . . and the wheels will come in handy when you need to move it, too. Love the fabrics and artwork. It'll be fun to see the room as you finish it up.

I so appreciate your opinions, but I'm actually back to not knowing which to get. As much as I love the first one, the more traditional one, the more contemporary one seems more casual and more suitable for our lifestyle. I wish it were easier for me to make a decision here.

If it makes any difference, the first one looks very rich, while the second one looks a bit "economical".

Just one exquisite piece can elevate an entire room.

What a beautiful room you are creating! Can you share anything more about the art on the mantle? I went to the website but could not find it.

    Thanks!

Parma, LOL. The second one is actually $850 from PB. It may look economical, but it's actually more than I wanted to spend on that particular ottoman. :)

Bestyears, here is a link so you can see the artwork. It comes in a print or canvas, and I opted for the canvas. I got the print first and returned it for the canvas and am so glad I did. I love it!

Thanks for the quick response! Gosh, I can't get it out of my mind, so, so beautiful!

Bestyears, thank you so much! We wanted something peaceful looking and hopefully something that everyone doesn't have.

    LOL, consider me slapped. :)

Pottery Barn would explain my reaction to it, though. There's an interesting take on that kind of furniture on the "Are you tired of dark" thread. They weren't talking about all dark, just the newer trends that have been out for a while.

I actually did a quick walk-through of their store yesterday.

Parma, thanks for pointing out that thread. I hadn't seen it. And I am more than a little concerned about PB's prices for what ya get.

I have kids, so vaccuming crumbs and dog hair out of all of the button tufts on #1 would make me crazy, LOL.

    I prefer #2.

They are both nice, but the first one doesn't feel like the right fit for the space. Too traditional and old English library with the tiny wheels on the legs. The second seems too contemporary and dark for the light furniture you have. I would love to see a print or pattern of some kind - perhaps a chenille.

Or, a group of these might be a nice touch - and more flexible than one big cocktail ottoman:

    bunching ottomans

I am wondering, since you say this will be the room you use often, if there is a reason you want an ottoman - will people be watching tv and putting their feet up? Otherwise, I would think about picking out a great rug with some pattern and color, and using a cocktail table of some kind.

I really can't tell you which way you should go...I have one very simliar to #1 & yes, crumbs in those tufts is something I did not consider. Thank goodness for the wand on the Dyson! I am planning on having my DH make a very rustic coffee table for me out of some old barnwood & will place the ottoman in front of the coffee table.

Just to throw something else out there for you, I really like the looks of this one from Ballards. I know nothing about the quality of their furniture.

Thanks, Les. This is a room that we will spend time in, so we will be watching TV and putting our feet up. I am planning to put a rug in there, and maybe rather than a coffee table ottoman, a coffee table would be better. We can always get a small ottoman to pull over from a side chair maybe if we want one. As far as pattern and color goes in the rug, I don't know how much more pattern I can go with since I already have the pattern in the pillows and am thinking of bringing in a side chair in the animal print. However, I may not use the animal print for anything more than a pillow. I don't know yet. I really need some help on finding a side chair for this room too, as well as tables but I guess that's too many questions for this one thread.

Johnatemp, if I'm going to go with a coffee table, I think the one you chose is a nice one. I like the color of the wood with the artwork and the sofa I think. And it's not too contemporary looking.
