Which Sectional? CL

The footrest on our recliner broke. The other one is about to break.

This is a *Break* for me! Because I had purchased a red microfiber sectional on CL which I love but hadn't really thought through on the arrangement of the whole living room. My dh insists on having a recliner in front of the t.v. Soooo I had to put the sectional at the other end and the pair of recliners in front of the t.v.

I re- arranged every possible configuration and have never been happy.

dh was mad whenever I mentioned I wanted some different furniture because we just got this stuff.

SOOOO the recliner broke and the other one is almost there!

Plus he got some extra money .. the planets and stars are aligned and I can get a new sectional.

I *think* I solved my arrangement problem by getting a sectional that has a recliner on both ends. The recliner will be right in front of the t.v. for dh. I dont really like recliners so the rest of us can curl up on the sectional.

Then the whole other side of the room I can put a seating grouping. Perhaps two side chairs with an occasional table between or whatever.

Sooo dh wants this black one.

I will post a pic and then post a pic of the beige one I like.

The pic of the black one is so dark, so it's hard to say with 100% certainty, but I think the cream one just looks a bit nicer for some reason. Maybe it's not coming across as poofy and shiny as the black one in the pics. Are they the same size?

I like the look of the cream one. But doesn't the black one seem more padded and stuffed like it would be more comfortable. I am also worried about the cream one not being strong enough for us.. we are both large people
I don't want to worry about the footrests breaking.
The cream one is an Ashley I know they are low end or mid end at best.
I am not sure the brand of the other.. but I have emailed to ask
Which should I get? Or neither. My budget is $500 to $550 on CL.
the lady wants $650 for the cream one so she might not accept $550

Cream one 95 inches long or something like that.. less than 100 which is good for the space. that puts the recliner in front of the tv.
I have emailed for the dimensions of the black one.
the cream one is 45 mins drive one way. the black one is here in our own town so dh is like.. "thats even better"
    men!@
sooo no way will he go see both.
But I don't want to choose based on a longish drive.

I don't care for overstuffed, so my choice would be the creme one.

I know what you mean about men and their recliners, but we finally do not have one in the house. I solved the problem by getting my husband a leather *stressless* chair with ottoman. He loves it!

really doesn't look That long either. If you see in the pic there is a door behind it.. and the average width of a door if you put that to scale.
I think it would look better from a distance and looks sturdier somehow.
the black might be better for our toddler and dogs.
The buffet table in the front entry is black.
also my dining room table and chairs is black.
The cream is *cuter* though and would be a great neutral.
    uggh !

Tina .. I've tried to tempt him with a comfie chair and ottoman but no such luck.
He has regurg (reflux) too often .. so he needs to sit up at night and sometimes even sleep in the recliner. So he HAS to have a recliner (he thinks)
Plus a remote in his hand
OH do you think the black one is actuall Stuffed more fully than the tan one .. it's hard to tell.
Don't more stuffy ones wear longer?

I prefer the looks of the cream sofa. I will say, though, that it's been my experience that Ashley couches just do NOT hold up over time. My neighbor has an Ashley dining table that's great, but we have an Ashley couch and loveseat that I HATE. They are so cheaply made. The material is cheap, the cushions can't be reversed for wear, the frame sags and creaks, and we've had them *less* than 4 years.

I knew Ashley was a lower end manufacturer when I bought them, but I expected they'd last at least 5-7 years. Instead, they started falling apart within 6 months, and now 3.5 years later, they look and feel awful.

I'd now avoid Ashley couches like the plague.

Yeah that is my concern too. The creme one looks cute but I worry about the abuse it will hold up to in our house.
maybe I should reconsider the black one if it is sturdy. How am I going to be able to tell if it is sturdy? uggh!!

Okay its $100 .. before you laugh (i know it's dated looking)
the positives would be I could Try out the arrangement with this sectional. Live with it.. see if it is going to work for us. So I don't make Another mistake.. and yes it has a patten on it but it's not Bright.

    The brown one is sold.

I would stay away from Ashley. Look into the others and see who made them.

Do like the brown one, to bad it is sold.

I would like to offer my 2 cents. We purchased a dark brown microsuede sectional 2 years ago with recliners on both ends. We purchased them new from a company exclusive to Iowa "McGregors". It is a good name brand. We also purchased a leather recliner from them that we love because it is big enough to accomadate a big person, but it is not wide and overstuffed. I guess it is a little more contemporary. The dark color of the sectional is a little overwhelming. It is like it sucks the color out of the room. On a seat next to the reclining end of the sectional, a spring broke it seems. It doesn't sit as high. Probably from my boys wrestling around and jumping on it.
The main thing that I wanted to share is that it is not that comfy if you are just lying on it - not using the reclining ends. Whatever they need to use to make the ends recline makes in uncomfortable (bumpy)to just lie on it and not use the recliners. The recliners are comfy, but not near as comfy as our recliner chair. Since your husband sometimes needs to sleep in the recliner, I would suggest that you get him the chair. A recliner on a sofa will only give you one arm also. And because of the recliner, we have to use a small wicker ottoman with wheels on it as a small coffee table. The foot rests would hit a coffee table. If I had it to do over again, I would NOT get the reclining ends and go for a comfy couch or small sectional instead. I had my eye on a clearance one through the JC Penny website but I was too chicken to buy something without sitting it it first. It seems like they were around $500. I would suggest that you post pictures of your space here and let all of the wonderful decorators go to town with their suggestions for color, space and arrangements. Good Luck

I have tried the sectional everywhich way.
I don't like the recliners in front of the t.v. but maybe it's not that bad?
The curtains.. don't like. The rug .. want a new wool rug. Carpet coming out.
    Recliners are gone .. broken.
Tables just there. I tried 4 sizes shapes of tables between the recliners. dh likes it big (table)
I dont like how the sectional is in front of the window and A/C that is why I would like to have seating group at That end and a sectional at the Other end
    Open to any tips.
The guy with the cream sectional said would take $550 for it.
I also don't like how all the furniture is in a Row .. uggh
I *think* I just bought the Wrong sectional (need one NO Chaise)
I thought the sectional with a recliner would be perfect cause it puts dh in front of the t.v. with his recliner. And I can have the other end to put a pair of chairs or whatever.

I Rearranged WDYT? This is what I had in mind with a chair grouping at the Other end and a sectional at the other end. I removed the chaise and used pieces of my sectional.
I could either just use the ones I have and leave it like that. (get new chairs for the other end. OR get a New sectional with a recliner on the LAF so it will be in front of t.v. If I did that the sectional would take up the corner space so there would be No black square table there, and no lamp.
which would be fine, just different
Also using the sectional Pieces.. the Sofa has two different Arms. which doesn't bother me so much but PLEASE advise
If I leave it the way it is and use my same red pieces I can get new chairs for the other side. A recliner for dh in brown leather. It won't be in front of the t.v. but it is still good viewing from there. I used to watch t.v. all the time from there in the corner of the sectional.

Honestly, I like the sectional you have over any of the craigslist items you posted. I'm not getting how a new sectional would work better than what you have, except for the "recliner option"? I would use the red sectional split up like you have in the rearrange photo, or as a complete sectional in the same location, and get new chairs/recliners for the other side of the room. The sectional you have looks really nice and inviting...the other options you have considered look more like a sofa on steroids to me. For folks who love recliners, I think the freestanding is a better option.

Just want to let you know that it is super easy to post pictures within the thread from Photobucket. Just copy and paste the "HTML code"

I like your red sectional best, too. Your blue recliners seem too big, though. If you're going to spend $$, maybe you could get different recliners, or get 1 recliner and 1 chair and ottoman.

Also, I can't tell if your TV is attached to the stand or just setting on it. If you can get a swivel base to set the TV on, you can adjust it for your DH's viewing. We do that for the 2 of us, and then have it more centered if the kids are home and several are watching TV.

I forgot to say that I like your new arrangement a lot better than the old one. That's why I suggested getting a swivel base for your TV, then you can angle it towards your TV watching corner.

I really like your 'rearranged 3' pic and if DH can use the recliners in that position I'd leave them there.

There's nothing wrong with the 2 chairs in front of the tv if that arrangement works better for the way you use the room. If you place the chairs in front of the tv, I'd use the 2 sofa pieces and rug near the front window. I would then get another rug to place in front of, and slightly under, the 2 recliners.
Your rug and sofa go together so well and I don't know why you'd want to replace them.

Keep in mind that the recliner chairs that are built in on sectionals have only one arm. My DH would never sit in a chair with one arm!

I too prefer your placement in 'rearranged3' and like your sectional much more than anything you've shown us. I would keep it and get separate recliners as I also don't think your hubby will be as comfy if you get a sectional with the recliner built in. As annz said, if the 2 recliners works better for your hubby directly in front of the tv, that's also not such a problem, but I prefer your rearranged placement better.

    Thanks guys :)
Terriks: thanks for showing me how to do that! I was going to ask about that.. I'll try it next time

frazoo .. funny you should mention getting one recliner & one chair with ottoman. This is something I am considering. The Swivel base for T.V. Brilliant! I don't know how I didn't consider this before. I will have to check around because the t.v. is huge.. like 50 inches. It's not a flat screen - it's like a dlp? that is a really good idea though.

annz.. I like the rug but it has several burn holes in it. (they are pretty hard to see though unless you look for them) from fireplace sparks. LOL about your dh never sitting in a chair with one arm .. I am going to get him a new recliner (I've decided)

It seems the consensus to just keep my sectional so I am going to!

I'm going to keep the arrangement I have & just keep my sectional for now. I'm going to get 2 new chairs ..keeping my eye out on CL

    Thanks for the input :)

I like the idea of having the set-up like in the rearrangement. Am I correct that rearrangement 3na d4 are the same - just different views?

The only thing that I do not like is the differences in the arms with separating the sectional. Will it fit in thate corner there if you had it as the "sectional."

Also - is there a possiblity of moving the TV at all.

What are the dimensions of your room - is you plug them in to any online room planner you can play around with arrangements by moving the furniture around on screen.

The tv would really look best if it were in a corner. I basically have the same tv on a very similar stand and it's in a corner so you don't see the back of it. I realize that you'd have to re-work the cable, but it's doable and I think it would be worth it.

Ruth .. yes if I used the sectional as a sectional there .. it fills in that corner. I rather like it with the table there.
And it's a chaise sectional (LAF ..) so the chaise sticks out into the room in front of the t.v.
Having the chaise stick out there really cuts off the room.
I think I need to replace the sectional "couch" with a real sofa.
I could either keep the red armless loveseat piece there with it or just get a real loveseat with arms. LOL

Arlene .. the t.v. has to stay on that wall without getting into particulars . It has to do with phishing the line through the walls. I checked into all that when they were putting that line there.
