Decorating Advice

Ok I am getting ready to paint and add molding to our dining room and living room. The living room hasn't been painted for at least 8 years, and then it was just painted boring navaho white. Now I want to paint it White Fir. It is the same color that we painted the ceiling in the family room. I will try to get a pic.

Please ignore the cobwebs, we have had fires and dust out here for so long I just can't keep up. The wall color is Honey Pot, the ceiling is White Fir and the other wall is Navaho.

This is what you see when you walk in the front door. It is a small 1980's track home. I want to paint this wall cranberry on the top then add a chair rail with maybe the paintable wallpaper below that looks like tin, all painted white.

Here is that same wall leading into the family room.

I want to paint the dining room the same White Fir, but maybe do a strip effect using the same color paint but with different finishes. I want to take the chair rail and paper around through the whole dining room. That slider is never used and I want to replace it with a triple window instead. This would give me more wall space.

This is looking into the powder room from the Family Room. It is painted the same Cranberry I want to use on the Accent wall. The door frame needs to be redone and change to open out instead of in. I really want new doors as well.

As you may remember my DH got me a nail gun for my bday. These are the projects I will be using that for.

Ok, thanks for listening, now your opinions please.

Toodles,

Laura

I like the idea of a striped effect. I'm considering the same thing but in green for my sitting nook in my MBR.

Laura I am not good at giving decorating advice but I do want to say how much I love your day clock! Is that a family heirloom? My mother has one and they are very delicate.

Good luck with your decorating. It is always exciting when you start a project.
    Keep us posted!

hoyamom, you mean the anniversary clock? That is what we call it. It was a wedding gift 23 years ago, so I guess not an heirloom yet!

It's white now and you want to repaint it white but a different shade of white and you want opinions on the new shade ? I just want to make sure I'm understanding this.

Or is the navaho white the cream looking color?

koidom, I think navaho white was the very stark white, and white fir is the creamier color on the ceiling. Is that right, lauraella?

Is there any particular reason you want to keep it all white? There are so many beautiful colors that would look so nice in there. I think the dining room would look especially good in a nice sage green.

The "tin" paper is a neat idea. I'd love to see that when you're finished.

BTW - your stained crown molding is really beautiful!

Actually, the White Fir is sort of a soft yellow! Hard to get the right tone in the pic. The color on the ceiling is the one I am looking at. I don't want to overwhelm the small room, it has the vaulted ceilings and all the different angles. With the cranberry on the accent wall figured that was a lot of color right there! I will try to get a better pic of the White Fir.

Well after doing some research, White Fir isn't around any more. I could still probably get it as I have the can and receipe, but anyway, here is another similar color.

This is just an example, and of course I can't put in the stripes. But you get the idea.

Ok, I am a moron. The paint color is White Pine, not fir.

Here is a link to the paintable wall paper I found. Problem is that it is only 21" high, so I will have to put it up long was in 12 1/2 panels, ugh.

But with a nice chair rail above, saw one with some egg and dart detail that would match the crown in the family room.

I will try to find another pic of the White Pine.

Please excuse the double post. My bad.

Here is what I am going to do first.

Paint the wall going into the family room Red Velvet, the paper the bottom half with the tin looking paper. Put up chair rail and paint the bottom half white white. Maybe I can get that done before Christmas!

Painting the rest White Pine, then striping the dining room and continuing the wallpaper and chair rail into the dining room.

    I think that will work.

    Thanks,

    Laura

Here are some pics of the wall with the wall paper on it. We put the chair rail up this weekend and I just need to paint. Need to decide on a color for the living room as well, DH nixed the White Pine color, said it was too yellow.

The living room has high ceilings and it is a lot, so looking for a softer yellow.

The yellow is the family room

You can see a little of the tin effect on the paper. It was real easy to work with, just need to get it painted. That is on this afternoon's agenda.

Softer yellow, how about Vanillin from Sherwin Williams. It is a cream leaning towards yellow, but very easy on the eyes. Here it is in my old house.

lyfia, I LOVE the SW Vanillin. I think that color would ahve looked great in my Master Bedroom. I loved the paint strip but never was brave enough to try it. Thanks for sharing. I like your windows also and the valences in your old home. A very relaxing bedroom I can see.

SW Chop Sticks, a warm golden tan that would be beautiful with your red. I used it with a deeper red, and had a lot of compliments. I think it helped sell my house! ;o)

Thanks everyone for your paint help. I am still looking but narrowing down the search. Really want to get it done. The ceiling has never been painted in 20 years, so I am sure that will be fun!

    I will keep looking.
