We tried this and found it to be quite messy (we were using a Eureka version - forget the exact model name). Instead, we just used warm water in a spray bottle. We first tore off the plastic-like outer layer (our multiple layers were all 80's vinyl type) and then sprayed the remaining paper-glue layer with the warm water and let it sit for a few minutes. Came down like a dream. We also used some scrapers to help get under the paper which helped take down large sections fast.

Of course, Your-Mileage-May-Vary depending on the wallpaper, adhesive, and wall preparation used in your room.

I used one with excellent results. It was a clothes steamer I borrowed from a girlfriend. I have actually been looking for one for clothes like it for some time, kind of on and off, without any luck. But I don't have any wallpaper to remove any longer, thank goodness. I don't envy you. Only drawback was having to keep filling up the small container that held the water. I felt it was less messy than the one I rented that was for removing wallpaper in a previous house. I didn't think the scoring implement helped at all.

I've done it but it's so much less efficient and much messier than the actual steamer you can buy at home despot for fifty bucks.

Sounds encouraging! I guess de-papering sucks no matter what...

Did you think it was messier because it gives off more moisture/drips? Or it leaves more mess to clean off the wall?

I thought too that the water reservoir is kinda small, but fortunately, i only have small areas in two rooms with dreary, peeling, smoke-stained, 70's half-walls and borders over vinylboard (it's a modular, AKA glorified trailer).

home despot...too funny...certainly fits better than "Lowe's", which is anything but. Ain't even gonna talk about MyNads...

Below is a link to a steamer similar to the one I used. The one I used was practically an antique.

The last place we lived, where I used the steamer, had a border print in every room of the house. I think the previous owners had put a lot of extra glue on, because nothing would take it off except the steamer. We did use those metal spatulas to help lift the edges too.

Wallpaper removal isn't any fun at all. One place we lived the previous owners had placed it over wallboard that had never been primed or painted - it too some of the wallboard off when we removed it.
